So Many of you have told me to call JCIA directly...and have given me this advice based on your experience. I did this and they eventually came.

But, isn't it sad/unfortunate/poorly managed that we all know this number by heart? I can count at least 10 times in the past year when I had to call it. And it seems I'm not alone.

Milk cartons are allowed but they go with plastic/glass/cans and not with other paper.

Huh, that's new. I remember that they were't recyclable because they are a sandwich of several layers of different materials. Unless they're burning them, I bet it's ending up in the landfill anyway.

scribblejam: these guys are not rocket scientists, this kind of thing happens all the time. Sometimes the best thing for a problem item is put it in a plastic bag. As long as it's not heavy they take them.

My perennial problem is getting rid of partially used tile mortar bags from a DIY. A kitchen counter and backsplash uses way less than half a 50 lb bag each of modified and unmodified thinset, but they won't take construction materials and the stuff goes bad in a couple of months. Then my basement floods and I have solid blocks!

So now i'm wondering what to do with it? i don't even have a car so can't really take it anywhere.

Televisions are to be put out on special days by appointment only. Who did you speak with ? (201) 432-4645

Our building of 15 tenants fills one 55gal barrel with plastics/glass/metals and another with paper/cardboard unless oversized boxes. Your recycling pile must be epic. You might be surprise at how many things aren't recyclable.

I guess I'll just throw everything away.

How much can you possibly have? My family of 4 only occasionally tops our 40 qt metal & plastics container. Perhaps you're recycling things in error, like paper milk cartons, or not crushing the plastic jugs. My wife won't believe me that wooden clementine crates aren't recyclable.

They seem to miss pick-ups from time to time but this does not mean you have to live with the recycling till th enext pick-up. Call the J.C.I.A. (201) 432-4645 hit zero for the operator and state missed pick-up she will connect you to the department for that.

Whenever the sanitation guys miss my recycling (usually plastics, don't know why), I leave the container out on the street and call the city's Rapid Response Center (201-547-4900 or smartphone app) and let them know.

It's always been dealt with by the time I get home in the evening.

Hope this helps.
