We used L&L Movers in Hoboken a few weeks ago and had an excellent experience! They were on-time/early, incredibly efficient and careful with our things, and were really nice guys with great senses of humor to boot. Its not often you get that last part, which made a yucky job a truly good experience. They were also great communicators and worked with me to explain the sequence of how they wanted to move things out when I asked, and asked how I could best be of help to them (even if just to stay out of their way).

I wish I could recall the forman's name - but the crew included Brian. That's the crew you want - they were superb. I also like that they bill by the hour and there are no extra charges for junk like wrapping glass, packing your tv safetly, or safely stowing art in the truck.

They are cash only, but many of the hourly moving companies are. They came in well under the estimated 8-9 hr. window they gave us (5.5 - 6 hours is what it took).

Have a friend who's a mover for a living and when I moved I asked him this very question. He said $20/mover would be a good tip.

As far as recommendations: Catlow Movers: http://www.catlowmovers.com/

Have used these guys three times over the last 10 years, as well as recommended to other friends, and they're ace. Efficient, careful, clean and professional.

Can the posters on this thread tell me what mover they used? I'm looking for a referral.

5 Guys, a full truck, and 10 hours of work. Plus they moved from a second floor apt. to a three story house. Because they moved about 40 boxes of vinyl records besides the regular furniture/ boxes, I gave them $100 a piece. Good movers are hard to find.

I tipped $10 an hour to each guy. But I lived up two flights. I think I over tipped a bit but they busted their asses.

I'm hiring movers to move my 1+ bd. apt. to a new apt. a half block away next month. Current place has a freight elevator and new place is a 1 floor walk up. How much do you usually tip the movers after they finish the job? Is it individual tips, or 1 large tip to the whole crew?

Could use some advice.

Thanks!
