Message from my friend:

A lot of unexpected things have happened in the last few days, one of which was the reminder of the amazing group of neighbors, friends, and family surrounding us. On behalf of our mother, we would like to thank you for your donation. We were all so touched by your support and generosity.

Thank you again,
The Johnson Family

My close friends mom lost her home of 22 years in this fire. He's set up a donation site, anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated. They're great people, this left her and his 2 younger brothers homeless. Thanks in advance for your kindness.

Several families have been displaced following a 5-alarm fire in Jersey City
Published: March 28, 2014 6:19 AM

JERSEY CITY - Several families were forced from their homes this morning after a five-alarm fire in Jersey City. It happened just after midnight on the 300 block of Central Avenue.

The fire started in a fruit stand, before quickly spreading to several neighboring buildings. The building the fire started in has collapsed. No one was inside at the time.
The fire got to be so intense that fire crews had to be pulled out for safety reasons. One fire fighter had to be taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The families that were displaced from the neighboring apartments are not expected to be able to return to their homes due to the damage.

Woke up and did the same thing around 2:30. Our place still smells the same way. Fire trucks were at Central and Bowers.

Edit: looks to be the fruit store next to Rite Aid on Central.

Was awakened about 1:15am from a sound sleep to the smell of smoke. At first thought it was my own home & then went outside to see if a neighbor's & if anyone needed help. A smokey haze seemed to be coming from Summit Ave. so I went to that corner & could only see a thicker smokey haze. At this time, about 1:20, I started hearing fire engines. Another neighbor, who was coming home from work, said he saw activity from what would have been the area of Rite Aid on Central Ave.

Can anyone confirm this?

Where ever this is, I hope no one got hurt.
