I was in this lot last night around the same timeframe as this article and I noticed an extremely suspicious looking guy going around the parking lot who appeared to be picking up trash and putting it in a giant bin.

First I've seen of him but I wouldn't be surprised if he was scoping out the cars and decided to help himself to the contents of unlocked ones.

I don't want to say he was asking for it, but it sounds to me as he sorta was. Don't leave anything of value in plain view inside your car! This isn't true just for the shop rite parking lot or anywhere in JC for that matter, I mean anywhere.

And did he leave his door unlocked? Thieves generally don't spend the time to pick a lock. They'd rather smash in a window...

I feel bad for the guy, but this could've been prevented with a bit of common sense.

Who leaves cash in their car ANYWHERE, let alone this lot?

OMG, that is so true! Even though I now have a car, I still schlep over there on foot with my granny cart if I need anything from Shop Rite or Bed Bath & Beyond. I'm convinced that no good can ever come of parking in that lot.

y Ron Zeitlinger/The Jersey Journal

A Jersey City man who returned to his car Sunday night after 90 minutes of shopping found his door wide open and more than $300 in cash and gifts had been stolen, police reports said.

The Bergen Avenue man told police he parked in the BJ's/Shop-Rite lot on Marin Boulevard in Jersey City at 7:30 p.m. and returned at 9 p.m., police said.

The man told police the missing items included a $60 handbag, a bank debit card, a $25 gift card, a $125 Tony Burch wallet, $75 worth of shirts and $50 in cash.

B careful listers.
