If I remember correctly, it doesn't really matter. The permit is good for one year from when you purchase it. If you replace your permit early, you just waste a few pennies on the overlapping validity.

I could be mistaken but that's my recollection. Call the JCPA 201-653-6969

Does anyone know how far in advance of the expiration date on a parking permit one can go to the JCPA to have it renewed?

If there is a limited number of parking spots in your building that you would have to pay for, then you CAN get a permit to park on the street. My building has 40-something apartments with only 10 parking spots and they are $250 per month, so I had to show my lease to the parking authority that a parking spot was not readily available to me.

I'm getting a car, and I believe I read somewhere that JC residents cannot get a parking permit for the street if there is parking in their residence (like apartment building). Is this true? My apartment building has parking, but I do not own/rent a spot. I would like to park on the street.

So why not rent one ? Seems kind of selfish to occupy a public when you have one availed to you. Is the lease or deed to the spot very expensive ?

Why is it selfish? I pay taxes like everyone else. Why should I have to pay $200 a month for a spot when I can pay $15 like everyone else?

Kimmygo - try parkopedia.com or craigslist. Sometimes you'll find individuals renting out spots for cheaper than you'll find in your own building. For example, on parkopedia I noticed someone offering a spot for $139/month on Grand/Warren.

Isn't it $15.00 per year to park on the street? If price is the driving factor, then of course you would rather park on the street. But OP is out of luck, so it looks like they'll have to rent a spot in the building or somewhere else.

True. If your building has more than a certain number of units (I think it's 5) and has off street parking availble, you're not allowed a permit.

This is true. You're out of luck. If everyone in the towers downtown wanted to park on the street, the whole neighborhood would be a parking lot. The parking rule was a condition for allowing the buildings to be built.

Hey Rycor make sure you don't tape the permit to the defogger/defroster lines on your rear window it will damage the system.

Thanks for the tip.

Yes. They will give you a regular stick on permit but they'll tell you to tape it to your window instead of actually sticking it on. It's good for 30 days, and it's the usual $15. When you get your permanent plates, you bring the permit back and they give you a new one with no charge.

So we just got a car. Can we get a parking permit with a temporary license plate?
