All the women I know who have a preference for men of a certain height (or income bracket, or religion, or whatever) are single and have been for a long time.

This is just my opinion (so who cares) but I personally feel that anyone who isn't open to dating an entire category of men (or women) based on a physical attribute isn't really interested in having a relationship.

BTW, I love short men. Maybe that's why I feel at home in JC.

What makes you think men are not doing just that, most men I know either like fit women or big curvy women... and some are even chubby chasers... just like height it is a preference. I think the point of the article is that JC women are not as shallow as NYC women and look beyond the height.

Cousin's point is that it is not frowned upon for a woman to outright vocalize their preference for a tall man, or at least a man taller than she. In fact, it's extraordinarily common. However, if a man were to vocalize his disdain for heavy women (an equally exclusive expression of preference for a physical attribute), he would probably be called a pig, or shallow, or insensitive, or whatever.

It's worse for short guys than it is for heavy women, because there really is not much for a short guy to do about his height. Overweight women can, in most cases, lose weight on their own accord.

Actually, only the televised sports. Distance runners are typically shorter than that average I quoted, as are gymnasts.

They're signing 240 million dollar contracts too?

What $240m athlete is not televised?

Its tough being small in stature - they even struggle in the business world.

Some options to get babes if short are;

1. Get rich
2. Be famous
3. Hang-out at short-person conventions or online sites
4. Join a circus
5. Do porn

Sooner or later, most people find their match - height and looks be damned.

Yeah, but they settle! Seriously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but height is quantifiable. according to Wiki the average American male is 5 ft 9 1?2 in, so this is stating that anyone under average height is unattractive! I can understand women preferring a man taller than they, but it would be a little silly if 5' Bethany had said she preferred men at least 10 inches taller than her. But I'm certain some do.

It sure would be interesting though, to see a cross correlation of how easily a thick wallet gets them to see a smaller man in a new light. But I assume dating sites don't have that stat (my own experience ended before jdate, thank God).

Genetically speaking, if small men can only be with women proportionally smaller, then you're on the road to creating a separate short human race! A friends son is angry at them for both being short, damning him to shortness. My own son is in the middle of his growth spurt and the suspense is killing him, the men in his immediate family range from 5' 6" to 5' 11.5'.

It?s a tall order dating women in the Big Apple.
The likelihood that a man under 5-foot-9 is contacted by a Manhattan or Bronx woman online is a scant 1.2 percent, with Brooklyn coming in with a paltry 2.4 percent response rate, according to a study conducted by the dating site AYI.com, which analyzed 50,000 interactions over two months.

Staten Island short stacks had just a 4.1 chance of being chatted up online, and Queens mini-men rounded out the boroughs with 5.4 percent.

?People in bigger cities have more options and tend to be pickier,? explained Josh Fischer, who led the study.
Brooklynite Nick Rizzo knows the sting of big-otry all too well.
?It?s just a fact of life that most women taller than me aren?t willing to date me,? confessed the 5-foot-7 28-year-old, who said he has found that women are often ?uncomfortable? when their date doesn?t measure up.

?Maybe they?re worried about how it will look to other people,? he added. But there?s hope across the Hudson.
Shorties in Jersey City have a 7.6 percent likelihood of being contacted by the fairer sex ? that?s a staggering 533 percent more likely than short men in Manhattan/Bronx.
?Jersey City, as opposed to Manhattan, has a bit more of a community vibe. People actually get to know each other here, and are a bit more laid-back,? said Bethany, a 5-foot, 28-year-old Jersey City woman who doesn?t mind dating a short man.
Still, there are some pitfalls when dating the diminutive, she warned. ?Short men don?t always have Napoleon complexes, but definitely steer clear of the ones that do.?
Some short men don?t help their cause.

?I met an [online] date at a bar in Manhattan. He was already seated when I walked in,? recalled a 5-foot-6, 42-year-old Chelsea woman. ?We had a nice time chatting over a glass of wine. When I got up to leave, I saw that the man who had said he was 5-6 was actually 5-0.
?I must have had a fairly surprised look on my face. To my horror, he said, ?I can climb you like a tree.? I made a hasty exit.?
Experts said size matters ? because of evolution.
?Cross-culturally, women show a preference for taller mates,? said Dr. Jill Shapiro, a biological anthropologist at Columbia University. ?Most people think it?s related to sexual selection. Taller men are perceived to be healthier, be better providers. By being tall, you are signaling that you have good genes.?
So what?s the matter with Jersey City women? Evolutionarily speaking, a lot, said Shapiro.
?It?s going against the normal pattern for most humans,? she said.

"But there is hope for short men, and it resides a stone's throw away in the mythical land of Jersey City, where women aren't quite as discerning when it comes to height. ?It?s going against the normal pattern for most humans,? Shapiro said of Jersey City women. Well, we are talking about a place where people occasionally eat their own fingers and rents are not ridiculously high, so yeah, things are different over there."
