Someone screwed up big time for us to find this out after rush hour on a Friday holiday getaway day.

At about five yesterday we tried to go from The Barclays to Rita & Joe's and traffic around the 1 & 9 was terrible - as was traffic on all the neighborhood streets we tried to use to avoid it... all the way up thru little india to JFK... it was just traffic, dead stopped, all over the place. Not awesome!

saturday at 5pm i opted to take the turnpike from central NJ back into JC instead of risking it with 1&9 truck - unfortunate that it's more expensive, but the turnpike was clear, no issues getting home.

At about 5 pm on Sunday the road leading to the truck route in Newark was pretty much grid locked from about a mile before the Skyway ramp, and was slow going into Jersey City. There was traffic heading south on the Skyway. I guess they got on at the Tonnele Circle, or the Broadway Ramp (no other access going south)

While driving around this weekend I was listening to the traffic reports. Every report said traffic was a nightmare because of the closure of the Pulaski Skyway. This is what we have to look forward to starting in 2014 for the next 2-3 years.

Well, sounds like local traffic was a mess. What about the Turnpike extension or 280?

So only the lanes going into the city are going to be closed on the Pulaski. I work in Morristown so at least in theory my commute out to work won't be so affected. Though I have to believe even that leg of my commute will somehow be affected. Of course coming home will be a nightmare.

Maybe I'll rent my place out for a few years until the work is done.

Did anyone drive out west and back to JC this weekend? Curious what the traffic was like on the alternative routes when the Pulaski was closed.

Rt. 139 and JFK Blvd were reduced to parking lots at times. It took me forever to get to one of my builds on Belmont.

At around 5pm the Square from the Tunnel to 1&9 was insane. Everything was bumper to bumper both ways.

What Heights said. We drove out to Clifton, and between avoiding RT3 because of the Giants/Jets game we used RT7 both ways. Out wasn't bad, Communipaw to Central to Fish House Road to 7. Back in was ok until we hit 1&9, then it was a nightmare trying to get crosstown. JFK was INSANE. I know the cops were deployed around the golf tournament, but for the Pulaski shutdown they better plan on having a dedicated police presence at major intersections throughout the West Side, because people were blocking intersections trying to get across, tempers and horns were flaring, and it was close to gridlocked.

Thanks for the update. People are still gonna bitch like all hell when the closures happen, regardless of how much advance notice is given.

For the record, the Pulaski will be closed this weekend from something like 9pm Friday to 6am Monday. Plan accordingly.
