Wrong. The $40 total didn't include tip and the 3yr old ate everything we did. Good job, good effort, guy.

The least expensive pizza (no cheese) is $14 x 2 = $28
Beet salad $10 = $38
Meetballs $9 = $47

Were they running a special?

I like Razza, and as Tommy said it's not bad if you consider it a nice restaurant instead of a pizza place, but I can't see a family of 3 getting out of there for $40 (even if you just drink water) unless someone is willing to go home hungry or the 3rd person is 3.

Yes, there was a special. And yes, the third person was 3. Good guess. Dining at a restaurant with great service and atmosphere for that price is a great deal. But like the previous commenter stated, we don't view the place as a pizzeria, even though Paulus Hook Brick Oven, which is a hole in the wall, charges just as much, if not more for their pies (which are good, I must add).

Yeah my opinion is, it's really not all that pricey.

But if you look at Razza as a pizza joint, it's pricey.

If you look at Razza as a quality restaurant experience, with an interesting/beautiful/unique ambiance, with superior quality food, and excellent service (in my opinion it's all of these things), then the price seems just about right.

Don't forget, it's a big space on the main drag of an increasingly affluent neighborhood - the rent ain't that cheap in that spot.

Agree with both sides here. The pizza at Razza is superb, but really quite expensive. I understand that they use expensive ingredients and that it's more of a "gourmet" place than a typical pizza restaurant... but it's still pizza. And rare is the day I'm willing to sit down for (even excellent) pizza and one round of beer with another person and drop 60 bucks.

I've been there and I'll certainly be back, just not nearly as often as I would be if it were even a little more reasonably priced.

That being said, I sure as hell wouldn't counsel them to lower their prices if they're as successful as they seem to be. If they can still fill the place at those prices, more power to them.

Tommy,
I'm not really disagreeing with you but the cost still feels inflated and they should be called out on it. I'm sure Ansel bakery could get $20 or more per Cronut but you dont see them charging that.

and yes it's nice to see them on the list.

The market place will determine the price. If it's perceived as not a good value people will not pay and the price will come down or the product will be discontinued. If you don't feel its is a good value don't go there.

Golly. Thanks for telling me how fair market value works. JClist is the new Khan academy!

Cool, good for them. They're pizzas are definitely delicious, however, I agree with you guys. The place is definitely overpriced for size of the portions.. a burgeoning trend in this town.

I agree that it's not necessarily a cheap place to eat, but they are pretty jam packed whenever they are open - free market enables them to dictate their price that they think people will pay, and it looks like there are plenty of people willing to pay.

It's very good but generally a couple dollars overpriced.
Margherita is $11 at Otto and $13 at Keste and they're paying NYC rents.
I guess I'm paying for not having to take the path?

I have to agree. Razza is something very special. Went there over the weekend to celebrate my birthday with some food-forward friends. Everyone raved. The pizza with wild boar sausage was incredible. And we couldn't get enough of the white pizza with fresh Jersey corn and paprika. Beer and cocktail menu is also outstanding. This is my new favorite place.
