I hope his close mindedness keeps my rent cheap. FTR I walk down columbus past the building he thinks must be "scary at night" at all hours and it is perfectly fine. Anyone who has ever, you know, dared to travel to the wilds of grove st. would know that.

Both these articles have certainly convinced me that "business insider" does not live up to either part of its name, though.

that is hilarious. I'll give him the gripe about mornings on the PATH.

too bad the original list didn't include JClist. one click here and he'd see that he fits right in.

ETA: this guy apparently writes some blog. I believe the tactic he is using is called "feuding up" - starting stupid shit with someone bigger than you to get attention.

I love Brooklyn, but is is getting over-rated. Although Prospect Park is a jewel.

Manhattan is not the fair comparison. All but the most delusional hipster would say Manhattan is superior to Brooklyn.

The article is saying that living in Jersey City is better than Brooklyn (or Queens) which I would agree with. I won't even include the Bronx...because really.

Why?

- No NYC tax
- It's more affordable
- It's closer to many points in Manhattan
- It's closer to everywhere else in the world not Long Island and Westchester
- In the case of Downtown, it's safer
- It's easier and cheaper to park
- PSE&G and Fios are superior to ConEd and TWC
- Less hipsters/stroller nazis
-3.5% sales tax
-Suburban type grocery stores with suburban orices

The downside is the PATH...which if you are patient, is an upside because it is cleaner and costs less for now, but customer service and the schedule are abhorrent.

Personally...I'm willing to trade all that for the PATH.

And people here love to crap on Hoboken, but not only would I take Hoboken anyday over BK or Queens, but here in JC many of us can walk there and take advantage of the restaurants and bars.

Which is another thing. I'd take having a "fratty" city as my neighbor over having East New York and third-world poverty level parts of BK as my neighborhood and riding the MTA/PATH with panhandling and violent outbursts.

Idiots will always deadpan anything NJ-related without knowing anything about it. Fact of the matter is, I'd take our sixth borough over any of the other 5...I'd take the Jersey Shore over the Hamptons...I'd take our comparative lower taxes....I'd take our Jersey attitude over a bunch of kids from Ohio who are now New Yorkers because they drink $5 PBR in a basement dad paid for.

And I'm originally from LI and also lived in NYC for 3 years.

Let them have it. It'll keep Jersey nicer.

Buzzfeed called, they want their "journalism" back.

And when did Groove on Grove become an "annual" event?

This is great if you're hanging out around the WTC, but it's not so easy to time your arrival to the station when you aren't... and it's not like the area around the WTC is a hotbed of active nightlife for anyone to enjoy "another round" for a few minutes before going down to catch a train.

Hey, I've taken NJT in the past so have dealt with the inconvenience of late-night trains that only leave once an hour, and stop running at 2am - but it would be nice if the PATH were run more like a subway and less like a commuter line, late-night. I for one would be much more likely to take the train if it were more regular, and I'm sure a lot more people would be - but because it's so infrequent, I'll be damned if you'll catch me taking it that late again anytime soon.

It's like they're actually discouraging people from using their services, rather than seeking to serve us.

LOL, the path has never been on schedule once for me whenever I have tried to plan it. Therefore, I gave up because no matter what, you are going to wait 30 minutes. I hate the Path more than I hate the MTA, El, Bart, Tube, WMATA, Metro.

Sorry to hear that it sucks for you. I take the Path all the time, never had an issue even late night. I know the times it is suppose to arrive.

Living in GV I can take any of them the JSQ, WTC/Newark or Hoboken does not matter and never had to wait more than 10 min for a train.

IMO Path is fine, and will be continue to be fine while some despise it, which makes no sense. I hate the MTA that's why I take it about 10 x a year, why live somewhere and hate on its transportation LOL

Nothing sobers you up and ruins your night more than waiting for the path. I haven't take the path to go out on the weekend in years...

If you've ever just missed a late-night WTC PATH train and had to stand on the platform for half an hour, like I did last night, you'd understand how drastic the difference between it and the NYC subway service is, if you can't get it from the huge difference in train schedules.

"Bragging" about the PATH service is ridiculous.

I found it tongue in cheek and rather funny. A lot of the ridiculousness you saw in the article is the same cheese you get from people that snub their noses at those from Jersey.

Is the mailing address still technically "1 Communipaw Ave.?" Was it ever that or am I imagining things?

To add one other opinion to the debate here, I don't think I would ever say that I "practically live in NYC," since that includes places like the Bronx, SI, Brooklyn Queens, where I would not want to live. I "practically live in Manhattan" is closer, and as true in JC as it is in Brooklyn or Queens. Almost none of us is here for the other 4 boroughs. Some of us are here for one of them, and many of us are just here.

Puhleeze..Manhattan is the MotherShip, but JC does have much going for it. PATH ain't perfect but I'd rather take PATH at 3am on a Wednesday night than wait for any train to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx. JC has an emerging restaurant scene but that is dwarfed by even Hoboken's. I could go on

JC is a great town with much of its appeal based on its proximity to NYC.

However, if I worked in NYC on a regular basis, I would NOT live here. Quite simply, the PATH sucks ass on a regular basis. It simply takes far too long to wait for trains, the trains themselves are incredibly slow, and they are packed 24/7.

And with the Port Authority the way it is, things only get worse, not better.

Pffft...if it's so much better, why do so many JC residents say they "practically live in NYC?"

Drastically different places with opinions on both sides saying theirs is better. But c'mon...

The NYC reality distortion field really is amazing. I have a friend whose business is near the PA bus terminal and would be thrilled with owning her own home with workspace, like she could easily get in the Heights for 1/3 of what it would cost in LIC where they are. But her boyfriend won't take transit and drives into Manhattan every day from Queens, so he would never cross the Hudson. It makes my head explode.
