Notification issued 5/10/13 at 2:00 PM. There will be a fireworks display near Liberty Island tomorrow night, 5/11, at approximately 11:30 PM. In case of inclement weather, the display will take place on 5/12/13.

This is from Notify NYC email alert. I highly recommend signing up for these.

Anyone remember when that idiot had a fireworks display for his kid's first birthday? Because everyone remembers their first birthday.

interestingly, there was an email blast from Notify NYC about this sent out tuesday. I've seen these before but I'm not sure if they have blasted on all of the various fireworks that happens out at LSP. still, if you want a heads up in advance, you might look into subscribing.

My bad! I always thought/heard it was from the restaurants in LSP. Thanks for the info on the cruise ship!

Follow @NotifyNYC on Twitter. It's the official account of the NYC OEM, and they usually warn you about fireworks in advance.

Thank you both for the quick response. I am very relieved to hear that it's fireworks, and not gunshots.

Have a great day everyone!

I know most of the people on here live downtown, but for those living in the Greenville/Bergen-Lafayette area...

Last night, a little after 8 pm, I heard a series of explosions that lasted for about five minutes, coming from the coastal area on the way to Liberty State Park. They may have been coming from Bergen-Lafayette, Bayview Cemetary, or the area by Caven Point park, it's hard to tell.

This is not the first time I've heard this kind of noise. It actually sounds like fireworks...and I wonder whether it has anything to do with cruise ships departing from NYC or Bayonne terminal.

Then again, given where I am located in Greenville, I worry that what I hear may be gunshots.

Did anyone hear this last night, or have any information about what this might be? I didn't see any articles in the JJ about gunfire in my neighborhood.
