I agree about not wanting a building that simply clones the local look in a fake way. Ideally, I'd like to see something iconic. A building that says "This is Hamilton Park". A building that visitors would want to be photographed in front of. Failing that, I'd like to see a building that can stand the test of time. Something that would look good in 10, 20 and 50 years time.

The proposed building fails in both respects. It wouldn't look out of place in Holland Garden projects.

Ugly.

It's like deja vu all over again. Who else remembers the original drawings of the north tower clad in titanium & glass?

Looks like a new parking garage being built between the school and park. Would increase traffic flow on Erie and around the park.

From what I can reckon from the images, it's the same below-ground parking garage that currently exists below the open lot, but the entrance to it has shifted to mid-block from the current 4/5ths point.

The images also led me to think that there were no retail store spaces at street level, which would have been insane. Luckily, the article at the second link indicates that there are.

I think the form is an attempt to minimize the impact on the park by keeping the bulk low and letting light through between the towers.

First impressions...

Looks like a new parking garage being built between the school and park. Would increase traffic flow on Erie and around the park. Would block sunlight to the park during morning hours and potentially overload an already strained infrastructure (sewage, electrical grid, etc).

...and it looks pretty ugly.

Proposed for the vacant lot on the east side of Hamilton Park.

Not exactly consistent with the neighborhood, but certainly not boring.
