Jersey City police have stepped up patrols in the area of the Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station where a man was pistol whipped and robbed last week and two women were robbed this week in separate incidents, officials said.
"We feel it is somebody in the area and after the first one, he went home, changed his clothes and did another one," Deputy Chief Peter Nalbach said of the robbery of a 38-year-old woman at 10 p.m. Monday on Princeton Avenue, and a 21-year-old woman at 12:17 a.m. on Brown Place Tuesday.

"We have a pretty good idea this is someone local so we are addressing it with increased patrols in the area," the deputy chief said yesterday.

Nalbach said it is also possible that the same person assaulted and robbed an 18-year-old man on Garfield Avenue at 10:37 a.m. on Jan. 17. The man told police a robber demanded his cell phone and when he did not react, the man pistol-whipped him causing cuts and swelling to the left side of his face and ear, the report says.

After taking his cell phone worth $200, the robber told the victim to turn around and then ran away, the report says. He described the gunman as being 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, with a beard and mustache, and wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans, the report says.

The 38-year-old victim told police she had gotten off the train and was walking home when a man came from behind and covered her mouth with his hand. He said, "Shut your mouth and give me your phone," reports said, adding that he took the phone and ran away heading north on Princeton Avenue.

The 21-year-old victim told police she was walking on Princeton Avenue and had turned onto Brown Place when a man came from behind, pulled her hair and said "Do you have anything?" She said "No," but as she handed over her purse to show him, the man took her iPhone, struck her on the back of her head with a handgun and ran away heading toward Garfield Avenue.

Both women described their attackers as being 5-foot-9 and having facial hair, but gave a different description of the robber's clothing.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call the police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

Seriously, things are getting worse on the Light Rail. It's only a matter of time before something even more serious occurs. There really is no security or enforcement on the light rail stops and trains.

No matter how Mayor Healy tries to convince us that crime is down and not an issue he is incorrect. Where is the police presence he promised. What is happening with the eye in the sky? How is that gun buy back working? I guess another gun that was not turned in.
It just s**cks that you can't be coming home from work, or wherever you might be coming from without worrying about being robbed, or held up at gunpoint.

That Light Rail station/stop is scary. It's dark and there is virtually no foot traffic in the area. I always kept my wits about me over there, as it seemed like an ideal place for this kind of mayhem to happen.

I hope both women will be okay.

OMG, how awful. It's really scary to hear things like that happen. Fortunately, nothing else happened to those ladies.
