Can anyone tell me how much the bus fare is these days? I know you need exact change. Was $4.25 last time I took it, I think...

$4.50.

Thanks, Chief. Didn't know NJT put the fares on the schedule.

I owe you one.

The jitney bus from platform b at JSQ is a good option. I took it this morning and there was no line. They leave as soon as they fill. The one drawback is the meandering path it takes thru Union City (up to 30th St) before heading through Lincoln Tunnel. Coming home there was no wait. Full disclosure: I work school hours so I was at JSQ around 6 am and in PABT around 3:15 to go home. The 2/3 trains are operating fine as well. For the person who needed a late night option to go home, these jitneys leave gate 51 from PABT up to 1 am. The PATH will stop at 10 pm. Hope this helps.

I wonder how frequently they will be running? I'm assuming it's going to be utterly chaotic.

I got a PATH alert at 3:41pm confirming what Tommy said. Also, it's on the PATH website.

Tommy....where did you get the PATH information?

I'm on the Police dept. email list that has been sent out over the last several days with updates. The last one this morning said PATH still suspended...so?

Starting tomorrow, there will be limited Path service on the 33rd Street line. Will not stop at Christopher or 9th.

Can anybody suggest the best way to get to the village, mid-day? Specifically Lafayette and E. 4th. I guess Path to 14th Street and walk is the best option?

What's going on with MTA subways?

Does anyone have any advice for those of us who work at nights in Manhattan? Seems like all the transportation (buses, ferries) all stop service early. If I get out of work around midnight, it looks like my only option is to drive in and out.

Bus stop is on Eight Street near the corner of Hamilton Park West. It was actually full at that stop at 8am - with 30+ more people in line.

Yes, there is service back from the Port Authority - but BUY YOUR RETURN TICKET BEOFRE BOARDING THE BUS (Gate #204 & #205) and expect lines when buying the ticket and trying to board the bus.

I work close enough to the the P.A. that I went over at lunchtime and prepurchased tonight's ticket. I am hoping that it doesn't take two hours to return home - but, hey, I still have a home and so am thankful.

AM buses seem to run every 15 mins or so. Good luck to all.

Although Hamilton Park isn't huge, where is the exact bus stop in HP (intersection would be helpful)? Also, is there return service?

Took the #126 bus from Hamilton Park and boarded at 8am. Thanks to whomever suggested this route and exact change for the fare. I got a seat - others weren't so fortunate. As was mentioned, the bus route is through Hoboken and we had no room to pick up passengers there. Hoboken is a sad sight and the photos and television coverage paled in comparison to this morning's bus views.

Two hours later we arrived at The Port Authority.

I felt relieved to arrive at work - but am dreading the pm return commute. Walked over this afternoon to pre purchase the bus ticket as the lines will probably be quite long for both the tickets and the actual platform boarding.

Looking for forward to the return of PATH Train service. Steven Fulup is doing a fine job of keeping us informed - facebook friend him, if you haven't already.

I took the 119 from Kennedy and Jewett on Friday and it was a breeze - too damn quiet in fact! The way back had a two hour wait at 6PM with a line that snakes 2/3 of the length of the bus terminal.

This morning, an early worm friend got to the bus stop a bit before 8 AM and two busses passed by packed to the gills and didn't even slow down.

At about 8:50 AM we took a #10 to Journal Square where the lines were EPIC! We walked on Pavonia toward the courthouses and happened to flag down a Bergenline jitney that took us to Palisade just shy of Congress, where it stalled in nearly stand-still traffic.

We walked two blocks just over the border to Union City and waited about 30 minutes for the 123 to PABT (and folks there said they'd been waiting up to 40 minutes!).

The bus crawled through Lincoln tunnel traffic and we arrived at PABT at 10:40 AM. All told, a little under 3 hours (for my stalwart friend, less for late-starter me) on 3 very different modes of transport and some walking/serendipity involved.

Can't wait to see what it's like heading home!

Just to clarify, I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be 4PM-8*PM* not 8*AM* - I don't believe the ferries will run overnight.

(And that's NJ Transit's mistake/typo, not @user1111's.)

I've been taking the JSQ buses for the past week into 42nd Street PA. It's kind of a pain, but I've assumed that its going to add an extra hour each way and have to live with it for now.

Yes, there were aggressive people in the lines at 42nd street and JSQ, but I was able to get to and from work.

Tried to get into Manhattan with the wife a little over an hour ago. JSQ station is in chaos. With lower Manhattan now functional, EVERYONE is trying to get to work. There were on order of a 1,000 people or so waiting to catch a bus.

I gave up and got the wife and I out of there when a fight broke out on the platform.

Regarding the ferry service, NY Waterway reports ferry service should be back to normal tomorrow for Paulus Hook. Last week they were under a Coast Guard order to stop service before sundown, probably because of concern that there was debris in the water. There's no specific information today, but if there's regular service tomorrow, there should be ferry service all day long to World Financial Center and the regular (limited) service to the midtown dock. (Last PH boat from 39th St. leaves at 7:30 pm; last PH boat from WFC at 9:36 pm.)

Regarding the bus, it seems like the best bet is to get yourself to Journal Square. I haven't been on the jitney vans in awhile but I think they are $1.50 now. Or take the NJ Transit #80 from Grove Path Plaza to JSQ. It's $1.50 cash only, exact fare required. Schedules are on the website.

Then take either the 119 or the 125 to Port Authority. It's $4.25 exact cash fare inbound. The 119 is on Platform D-3 and the 125 is on Platform C-4. Also there was a post on another thread that you can also get a commuter van at Platform B-2 for $3. (Thanks itgirl.)

On the return, it appears that the 119 leaves Port Authority from Gate 1 and that you can pay $4.25 cash or with a ticket. (Somebody correct me if that's wrong.) Or you can take the 125 from Gate 214, but you must have a ticket, no cash accepted.

And apparently when you board at the Port Authority, you can pay an extra $0.70 to get a transfer that you should be able to use to take the #80 bus back from JSQ to Grove Plaza. I don't know whether you pay that in cash or need a ticket.

Or, itgirl posted that you can take a $3 commuter van from Gate 51 at Port Authority. I haven't verified that.

Good luck everyone!
