I recall reading somewhere (maybe here on JCList), that they'll be serving Roman Nose food in WORD. If true, likely, the construction is related to the cross-selling..

I enjoy RN as well. While i like the charm of a BYOB, I understand their interest in being able to sell liquor.

Perfect thanks. When I drove by I thought they were doing well and couldn't understand why it would close. Expansion makes sense. Thanks for the help.

They are expanding and have been approved to serve liquor. Should reopen soon.

I drove by Roman Nose on Newark today and saw that the windows were covered up. There was a note on there. Just wondering if anyone else saw that and knew what it said. Hopefully it didn't close it was a pretty good place. Thanks for the info.

stopped in for a to-go pie last night. looking forward to eating there, food looked legit and people seemed pleased.

The pizza is good, perfectly serviceable. I will certainly consider it along with Rustique, Paulus Hook and the new Majestic when in the mood for za. Each is unique, and worth having from time to time.

That said, nothing in town is close to Keste, or any of the other top shelf Neapolitan spots in NYC (Mottorino, Pauly G, Robertas, etc). Roman Nose isn't even the same style, not worth comparing at all (IMO)

we are pizza snobs, ordering a pie almost every week from Grimaldi's in Hoboken, and the margherita pie we had from Roman Nose a few days ago is probably the best pie we've ever had in Jersey City (topping Rustique's best efforts). it's a bit towards Keste (on Bleecker St.) but less salty than that, very fresh ingredients, delicious!! it heats up well too, this was a takeout order.

two thumbs up, we'll be trying more in the near future.

Still haven't had the opportunity to sit in and have a meal. Had the fusilli al Pesto last Friday. Tasted really good and serving size was better than my last take out (fettuccine).

Newark is definitely not dismal. Things are not perfect but slowly we are getting some variety of good options. I like the fact that I can get a decent selection of food now and the green groceries are a god send.

I went there with my girlfriend this past week. We each had soup, her the lentil, and I had the minestrone. Both were excellent. I had the orecchiette, and a side of meatballs since they are supposed to be excellent, and my girlfriend had the Penne ala Norma. Both dishes were very well made, balanced in flavor, and hit the spot. We capped it off with some espresso, and split one of the crostati.

Price-wise, the place is spot on. Our dinners were under $40 for two, with starters and a split dessert. Quality-wise, we both felt the dishes were delicious, simple, but very well prepared and fresh. To me, their soups were great, but the meatballs were almost ideal, with a fluffy, tender texture, and a moist, well seasoned sauce. I would easily make a meal out of a full order, some sharp cheese and crusty bread.

In terms of execution, even though the menu is much more simple, the food is just as good as GPs by Hamilton Park. It's a very welcome addition to the area for me, as a life long JC resident.

The grilled vegetables were delicious! I liked the portion size for the pasta (I had the orrichette), and loved that it is BYOB.

Really the best meatballs I've ever had. I don't get the cardboard take out container, but those meatballs and sauce were really good.

Great, I'm glad this isn't another "red sauce" on everything joint. I gotta get my ass in there.

It\'s true that RN serves meatballs but they have become the \"In-food\" these days. It\'s like Polenta, it\'s fashionable to eat Polenta. I\'ve been eating it since I was a kid. Basically it was peasant food.

Our parents and grandparents had to feed a lot kids and that\'s how Italo-American cuisine was born. You won\'t find meatballs in Italy. Chopped meat is not a big item. The same goes for hamburgers & meatloaf. I lived there for a number of years. Good luck trying to make Macaroni & Cheese. Italians don\'t eat Cheddar Cheese!

Sure there is room for more improvement, but as you say it is getting better. There are more quality dining options than many people realize thou.

not really sure what you're looking to float your boat when it comes to an eatery on newark, but if you don't like bon chon and nha trang, then i don't think we can be friends.

Haha, funny that you were struck by *that* sentence, because I stopped reading after cringing at the phrase "typical Italo-American slop."

welcome to the neighborhood, I suppose. if you think that newark is dismal, then perhaps jersey city isn't going to be your cup of tea. skinner's loft, litm, and sawadee are all on that block. two boots is practically next door. porto, miss saigon, bon chon, barcade and nha trang are mere blocks away on newark.

Sunday afternoon my partner and I ventured to Newark Ave and the Roman Nose. We had the Frittata Brunch. RN is a very comfortable place. The staff and the owner were extremely pleasant. Even got to use some of my Italian. Some thought went into the creation of the menu. It stays away from the typical Italo-American slop! We will be back for Dinner! A bright spot on dismal Newark Ave!

No delivery! Boo! I'm sure it will be coming soon. I don't see how you compete in this market without delivery. Even places like White Star, Hamilton Inn and The Embankment, when they were still around had delivery. Embankment closed, right? Places from Hoboken usually deliver as well.

The serving was a bit smaller than I expected/wanted (needed to carb load for Tough Mudder today!).

The interior seems like a nice spot to sit back with some friends over a meal. The staff was a pleasant. Definitely will be going back again.

Definitely! I went there and all the tables were full but the host called our # once a table opened up. The food/staff was great and the food came out quick. HOWEVER, one of us ordered the fettuccine as well and the serving size seemed messed up. The other pasta dish sizes looked right and the fettuccine was probably only a little more than half as much. If it happens again we'll ask them what's going on. Meatball sauce and Cookie were excellent.

Tried this place yesterday and really enjoyed the food. Great meatballs! Excellent value for portion and prices. One can tell that everything is made with pride and good wholesome fresh ingredients. Service was excellent and welcoming. Great addition to neighborhood. Will try their brunch frittatas another time soon.

I ate there once this week. You can get the same stuff dining in or at the takeout counter. It is BYOB. I had a bowl of pasta and a side of meatballs, as well as 1 of grandma's famous cookies for dessert. The place holds its own against the other Italian places downtown and is a bit more affordable as well. Based on my 1 meal it's a solid option.

Roman Nose
125 Newark Avenue
Jersey City, NJ 07302

www.romannosejc.com

Anyone been here yet? BYO?
I peeked in last night and it does look inviting. I didn't see a takeaway menu. Seems like it could be a nice addition if they offer something more than red sauce and carbs that I can get a pizza joint.
Good luck to you guys. A local place where I can get fried artichokes and stuffed fried olives would be amazing.

Interesting post from Yelp. Didn't they just open two days ago?

"Real authentic Italian food and dessert! I've been here several times in the first week. The food, service, atmosphere, and prices are terrific. Real attention to detail. A welcome addition to the lackluster food scene of Jersey City. The quality here should earn them a loyal following!"
