Clearly you didn't live here before CC blvd got paved.

no, no. i was responding to your response about the poster above who said drivers were speeding around the construction and it was unsafe to cross there. obviously they need to re-pave the street. i was saying that they could make the construction process safer for pedestrians by enforcing traffic laws on frustrated speedy drivers. or maybe directing traffic there to help people out. nevermind.

The way they are going about directing traffic (or lack there of) is ludicrous. They do not care that people are just trying to GO HOME! I have asked them to explain what route I should take to access my block and I've recieved a variety of answers. Last night I intercepted 3 officers before one of them told me to just drive through the cones. After doing that I hit another blocked intersection where the officer makes me explain myself and then tells me if I go in a direction different than what I'm telling him I'll mess up my car and get a ticket. This morning I had to run back home amd went back to the intersection I was allowed through last night and an officer refused to let me in again and refused to give me an alternate route despite me stating I just want to get to my own house! After stating a few choice expletives I just drove off knowing it would take me 20 minutes to find a way home. The traffic cops are unbelievably rude and unhelpful. I had one joke about charging me $5 for him to move a cone- considering he was the fourth cop I had to intercept just to get home I wasn't exactly in as jovial of a mood as he.

Beyond nightmare. It's made vehicles cutting through downtown even more aggressive, speed demons down Jersey Ave., if they weren't going to stop before for pedestrians, you should have seen today. I saw a mom and child walk to the middle of the crosswalk and cars zipped around them.

The irony was there was a cop monitoring construction and ignored the pedestrians trying to cross the impossibly busy street, there was a car half parked on one of the crosswalks which obviously makes it hard to see traffic for vehicles pulling out and the cop just watched us struggle.

There is a re-election bid in process, so I think we can all connect the dots. This is one of several transparent displays that are supposed to remind us of how wonderfully the current administration performs!

Oh, I'm totally sold -- how about all of you?

Only one problem. They seem to be blocking the cross streets with no rhyme or reason. I had to move a cone blocking the street to get home tonite.

I just rode up the hill from Grove Street along Newark and they are FINALY at work scraping off the old road surface. This is NOT the pipeline work that has been moving down the hill along the cemetery, this is a comprehensive resurfacing. I'm so pleased this is finally happening! At last I will be able to ride my bike down the hill and not have my fillings shaken loose hitting the continuous surface of pot holes- I wish I had known on Friday that ride down the hill would be the LAST TIME I had to deal with that awful road surface, I would have savored it.

Does anyone know what's going on with the repaving of Newark Ave. between Coles St. and Summit Ave.? I googled around and apparently this was Phase III of the Newark Avenue Streetscaping project and was supposed to be finished by now. The sidewalks, streetlights, benches, etc. were all finished around the end of summer last year but it seems the project has stalled. I can't seem to find any answers on the internet about this.

guess that never happened. I drove in with a couple friends from NYC the other day and was just downright embarassed that I had to drive along CCD. Made me feel like I was living in a warzone. That horrid street needs to get fixed asap it is giving this city a terrible image.

I wonder if the Abbey's regular featured in this article is the same guy I always see peeing on the street 2 blocks away from Abbeys. No lie...there is a guy in a wheelchair who always drinks at Abbeys then proceeds to drive up Newark Ave to Fifth St and pees just inside the corner. He used to do it on my block, fourth st, until I caught him and told him I'd call the cops if I caught him peeing on my block again.

Phase III work has begun last week from Coles St. with the pavements. I hope whoever won the contract will not repeat the Phase II pavements!

Went to JC Village meeting this Tuesday. The Newark Ave. streetscape will look great-once it gets done. Apparently, two of the contractors are sueing for the job. We have to wait for the judge to make a decision. Looks like the construction's going to be delayed. Hopefully not too long.
