Its nice to have all these things - yes. But it could have been executed better.

For example - On newark ave between Monmouth and 4th st there are now 12 garbage cans.

Monmouth residents between 3rd and 4th have been asking for a second can to put infront of Franks pizza, where 90% of the streets trash originates, but no luck.

I tried to move one but there are bolted down - at least they did something right.

So all what would you rather have. When you are walking back from the market and need to make a call, no bench. Would you like to see a tree bloom in the spring. Would you like to see little flowers in a planter and/or a small bush. Maybe you may wish to see pizza plates and soda cans everywhere. Coke bags and small booze bottles. Last time I check we did not pay for the improvment. Yes Yes Taxes Taxes but please. It is great. I prefer walking at night seeing as the sunsets on the early side something lit. Just say'n

Maybe I am late to the party-- if so, forgive me.

I can't help but notice that the installation of a massive amount of street furniture and fixtures coincides with the opening of the Healy Tavern nearby.

Is the sad-looking stretch of Newark between Brunswick and Palisades really improved by the installation of an INSANE number of benches, planters, and Victorian light fixtures?

Yup, and so is the fact that they are 3' wide for a 2' bush.

Is 12 planters a little excessive for one block?

Have to say, hate the new benches.

They were not designed to stop homeless from sleeping on them.

And frankly, the homeless now are all over the benches. And sorta getting sick of them loitering around Newark Avenue downtown.

I say remove them because they continue to keep the riff raff hanging out down town and I'm not paying crazy taxes to have to see this. I want a vibrant downtown commercial district. Not a homeless hangout.

And they aren't shopping or chowing down downtown. Sorry JC Economic Development Corporation.

Typical of the JC Planning dept. Anyone notice they were doing those stupid crosswalks at CC and Marin on Saturday. Bad enough they are wasting $$ on them but now paying OT as well. Fix Washington street first if anything......

Agreed that many of these benches seem unnecessary. What would really compel that many people to sit on a bench on the stretch of Newark between Palisades Ave and the Turnpike overpass?

benches are nice but some of them are super close to the curb. Get a great view of parked cars down the hill, or speeding cars up a bit. And then there's the outward-facing benches at Newark/Jersey, for whatever reason. Amazing views of dirty brick walls

The benches are nicely designed and add a little bit of charm to the streetscape along with the new sidewalks, faux brick crosswalks, trees, and lampposts.

These are encouraging signs of new energy in downtown JC. It's a slow process but just a few years ago the area was much more rundown and inhospitable with fewer amenities.

We have some great, unique local restaurants and shops here. Hopefully more will follow. The improvements to Newark Avenue do encourage more development and foot traffic.

It would be nice if they repaved Newark Avenue too.

The benches go further down Newark Avenue at least to Monmouth, along with the fancy new street lights I think they add a bit of charm to our City. However, paving Newark Avenue and some side streets would have been a better choice to spend the taxpayer dollars.

Agree. The ones near Dickinson HS seem to be too close to the street.

Did anyone notice all the benches on Newark Ave. from the bottom on the hill to the top of the hill both sides. I don't think we needed all the benches. And the positioning of the benches is a joke. I think they said ah lets put 4 here-2 here etc.
