seems Light Rail stops after 1-2am and picks back up around 4-5am.

since the last catastrophic shut down of all Path Trains on that one horrible Saturday night does anyone know what time Light Rails stop running?

Because I could've gotten on the 126 Bus to Hoboken and transfer to Light Rail back downtown JC but didn't know if they were still running at 12 midnight.

there are no jitneys that goes via Holland Tunnel to NYC downtown/WTC.

All New York Jitneys go thru Lincoln Tunnel to Port Authority, either to and from Gate 51 (destination Journal Sq last stop) or Union City where they park on the side streets near P.A.

Yeah the jitneys. I don't know of a website with the routes, but at night I believe they only run from NYC -> union city -> paterson. Late nights they line up outside on 42nd street between 8th and 9th aves.

During other times, you can catch them at Gate 51, and they cross the Lincoln Tunnel, go to Union City, then turn left and go down JFK Blvd and end at Journal Square. There are other routes as well that I'm not 100% sure of

Note you can also get between Penn Station and Hoboken via regular overland rail on NJTransit, via Secacus

On really major disruptions, NY Waterway to Hoboken/JC and cab/Light rail from there is generally the best bet - but get there early, before it gets overcrowded. After 9pm, buses from the Port Authority are the way to go.

During 9-11 and the 2003 NE power outage NY waterway were the only way off Manhatten to NJ.

The commuter vans run 24 hours from Port Authority to Union City (~32nd street and Bergenline). You can get off there and call a cab to go the rest of the way. One way fare for the commuter van is $2.50 I believe, plus whatever the cab from Union City to Jersey City would be (I'd guess around $20).

What I've done in the past is just park my car on Bergenline (free metered parking at night), then walk the block or so to the bus stop, take the commuter van into Manhattan, then take the commuter van back to Union City and just drive home.

The real solution is for the Port Authority to contract with the MTA and NJTransit to run PATH shuttle service when they have a catastrophic failure of the system.

Apparently part of the problem with the announcement system on Saturday was that it was brought down by whatever caused the signal malfunction... apparently the Port Authority hasn't heard of the internet.

How about the #125 NJ Transit bus that goes between the Square and the PA bus terminal. It travels along Kennedy Blvd. from 32nd St. in North Bergen and through the Heights ending at Journal Square.

the ferry between west 39th street and Port Imperial/Weehawken runs til midnight on weeknights and 1am on weekends. it connects to the light rail. it's a circuitous route, but maybe preferable to standing in line at Port Authority for hours on end.

All NJ transit busses mentioned leave from Port Authority Bus Terminal, not Penn Station. The 119 bus does not operate on weekends. The 123 bus is a possible option but does not operate after 1am I believe. The 126 to Hoboken runs later and from there you would can take Path from there, cab it, walk, or run depending on your energy level.

Another option is take bus to union city and transfer to a jitney if they run that late.

The 126 from Penn Station goes to Hoboken, where you can tranfer for .70 to the light rail. It also goes past Newport Mall and Hamilton Park during peak hours.

http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0126.pdf

There are other buses from Penn Statin to JC including the 119 and 125, but not as frequent.

Cabs with negotiated fares don't come with tips, at least not when those jerk offs demand $45 + tolls. Their tip is included in the flat rate.

With the recent snafu at PATH on Sat night, I'm sure a few of us got stuck either in NYC or in JC/Hoboken.

Could anybody please share details about which bus routes are best for travel between midtown NYC (midtown) to Jersey City and WTC to Jersey City.

Yes, I know I can google things up, but would appreciate if frequent bus travelers would share some tips...

Cabs are usually $45 + toll + tip. I'm looking for other inexpensive options (bus, jitney, etc).

Thanks.
