Was my first time riding the Bike Tour also and I thought it was well executed by all those in charge!

My GF and I had a great time on the tour. It was the first time we actually rode our folding bikes for more than few miles. The weather was perfect and the pace of the tour I thought was great. I'm hoping there's some more events similar to this in the future, or at least as previously mentioned even smaller scale type tours. It figures the only picture that I am in on NJ.Com is us walking our bikes up the hill. Yeah I know..epic fail. Big props to BikeJC for putting this together.

Here's a camera phone pic before the start.

She was able to keep up with the crowd on her pink bike and her jacket tied over the handlebars. Impressive. I think everyone was chanting "Let the girl ride! Let the girl ride" or at least the contingent near me was. She sort of looked bored that they had stopped her.

Why yes, the Jersey Journal has posted a fairly large and rather cool set of photos. Here's the link:

One of the highlights of the ride was the little girl who was out independently riding her bike (I wanna say by Mallory/Lincoln Park) and just decided to join in the bike tour...she was having a great time keeping up with everyone as part of the parade...I was watching her, and didn't think she was with a guardian, was going to let a Marshall know, but lost sight of her...when we got to Dickinson, the police had pulled her out of the group and to the side...everyone was yelling, Don't arrest the little girl! And the cop shouted back, no no we aren't, don't worry - but her Mom wants her back home!

It was really cute...they probably put her and her bike in a squad car and took her home...she was far away from her house!

is that the little girl wearing an I-heart-Mama shirt, who fell off her pink bike? I saw her at the after-party, fully mended.

Yes many thanks to the organizers. I had an awesome time. Great weather, great organization, nice pace, good crowd. And my post ride lunch at the Krave Truck was great. Looking forward to more rides.

P.S. Did they ever let the little girl finish riding who made it as far as Dickinson High School?

Great time yesterday! Great crowd, great weather, great route - wonderful. Thanks to the organizers for putting together a fantastic event. Any thought to having more regular, smaller scale rides - maybe early on a Sunday morning when traffic is at a minimum?

for info and to register - http://bikejc.org/register

Helmets are required for all participants in this year's Ward Tour. Riders must agree to wear a helmet during the Ward Tour to register and ride.

It was a great ride last year. This year should be even better!

Bike JC promotes safety and along with the JCPD, hopes you will wear one. NJ law does not require adults to wear helmets if over 18. You will not be turned away from the ride if not wearing a helmet but it is strongly recommended.

Just around 11am when the bike tour starts. As the tour moves along the wake of road that the tour leaves behind will open up immedately. The road closures move along with the tour.

This year we worked alongside the JCPD to pick streets that are wider, with less traffic lights/stop signs and will have traffic blocked off on all turns. We won't be stopping except for 4 pinch points to regroup (600 riders can stretch a long way!), to let any passing emergency vehicles and of course, if is deemed necessary by JCPD who will be escorting us through all 6 wards. See map below:

Yeah.. it's too bad it was moved out of National Bike month and in to the Summer.

I enjoyed it last year, but most weekends of the summer are booked up.

"Only riders 10 and over are allowed to ride at the Ward Tour. Younger riders can ride on an adult's bicycle (in a seat, trailer, etc.). For families with younger children who want to ride solo, the Hudson TMA is having a Bike Rodeo on the morning of June 4th as well."
