I know it is not a laughing matter..but that would have been some story to tell your grand kids.

An a-hole lowlife uses your stolen car to rip off the Channel 7 Eyewitness News van!

Your car will probably turn up when they start street cleaning again.

I was all excited when I saw this post. Called the JCPD right away, and they told me that mine is still active on the stolen list, which means it wasn't recovered. I will tell my friend to check to see if it's his.

Thanks anyway.

Hey 9900rpm...read the post about the news crew's van getting robbed. The thief tried to take off in a stolen Honda Civic. Maybe it was yours or your friends???

Good Luck.

My car has been stolen twice in downtown (Apr 09 and Feb 10). Both times it came back within a week. Found in Irvington and East Orange, with some damage from ignorant and careless driving (and the break-in) but not from being chopped for parts or anything else..

I had a Integra stolen off of Wayne Street 3-4 years ago. It was recovered about a month later with no engine and no exhaust.

It would've been better if they didn't recover it because I had to pay a few hundred bucks to get it out of the impound lot.

It's been a few weeks, and still nothing. Ionia the cops aren't looking for the car. Was just hoping that it would turn up, whether it be in 1 piece or not. Would like to get the car back if it's still in ok condition, so I can move on from this. Insurance company say they need to wait before anything happens. Leaves me in a bad position, because I don't have the car right now, and don't have money from them to buy a replacement.

My car was parked downstairs from where I live. I parked it there myself, and I don't drink.

Another acquaintance had their car stolen from him the other day here in Jersey City, out of a church parking lot by 2 men. Caught on tape. Hopefully something comes out of it. That was a Civic also.

Make no mistake, no one is looking for your car. Sad but true. If your car is found it will probably be by accident really. Whether it's used in a crime or perhaps reported by an alert citizen as it sits somewhere collecting parking-tickets. A few years ago a neighbor reported his car stolen. It was never stolen. He had forgotten in his drunken stupor that he left it at a friends place in his parking lot. The car sat there for months basically un-noticed as eventually it deteriorated and feral cats started using it for shelter. No one ever reported the car as it sat between all the other residents cars. It was an open air lot, obviously, and the cops never took notice. Sad but true.

My friend had his car stolen a few years ago from the same area, but they did find his car a week or so later, it was a mess, but a heavy cleaning (beer cans, McD boxes etc left) all it needed. Don't give up, might be just a few kids riding it for a few days or the night.

I filed one as soon as the car was missing, last Thursday.

I was told that I would be called within 24 hours after it's recovered, but I also know people that had recovered cars sitting in impound for weeks before they got a call.

If you want a police report go to your local police station and file one.

Try lurknig around the small mom & pop auto repair shops near by especially the ones specializing in Hondas. I think there are some on Fairmont and Storms avenues.

sandman, because it's a Civic, I did have some kind of comprehensive insurance on it, but it has a $500 deductible. There were a few break-ins on the block these past few months (glass still on the floor). I guess a $500 deductible is better than taking a total loss on it.

croft, I will drive by those areas, and check to see if there's any tickets against the car. The car didn't really have any expensive parts on it. If anything, it just looked like any other old Civic. Crappy thing is that I just had the bodywork done on it, so it's totally rust free.

Is there a site or number to call to see if a car has been recovered? I called the police department this afternoon, and they told me I will get a call if the car shows up. I find this not the case, because I've had friends that had to "find" their recovered cars.

most of my friends who had their cars stolen in jersey city eventually found them after they were repeatedly ticketed and booted. since it's a honda, your chances of getting it back with all of the expensive parts may be slim, but keep an eye out on pine st. and monitor st. in bergen lafayette. those were the streets a few friends cars were found on. also, keep calling the municipal court to see if any tickets have found their way onto your dashboard. they can probably help you out with the location of where it was ticketed if that's the case.

good luck to you. i've had all of my cars broken into but never stolen. i couldn't even imagine what it's like not knowing where your car is.

Understandably, you probably didn't have theft insurance on the 16 yr old car and will have to shoulder the loss.

As someone who recently sold a dependable 19 year old car, that I loved, I can sympathize with you.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. We had thefts and car break-ins when we lived in the Heights. My daughter was young at the time, but it left such a negative impression upon her even to this day. Even the "small" quality of life crimes that seem to be dismissed often really do add up - and they can impact our children deeply. Yes, it's a part of city living and I teach resiliency but enough is enough already.

I hope you find your vehicle soon.

That sounds more like Van Vorst between Essex and Grand, just to the north. It could definitely do with a makeover and the abandoned Fields condo project is not helping matters, not to mention the old factories next to the SPP field.

Even though its near a nicer neighborhood, that street is gross. I see people getting high there all the time, it looks like there is a chop shop back there - I do'nt like walking the dog there in the dark.

But when asked why police don't patrol the area, I was told by our councilman that it looks "bad" for the residents to always see a police car in the neighborhood.

WTF?

Reported it to the police, and was told a lot of times, thieves steal the car and park it for a few days before chopping it up. Hopefully it's found before too much damage is done.

If anyone sees this car anywhere, please contact me. This was a project car for my daughter and I. She is devistated that the car is gone.

Thanks for the space. Happy Holidays.

That's terrible. It's a popular car for young car thieves... pretty quiet area most of the day. They had to turn on Grand Street... probably westbound.

Good bet that it's still in Jersey City.
