Jersey City woman whose body was found in park in Heights on Monday has been identified, but autopsy inconclusive on cause of death, officials say

Thursday, December 02, 2010

The woman found dead in Jersey City's Leonard Gordon Park on Monday has been identified, but an autopsy performed yesterday was inconclusive in determining the cause of her death, officials said yesterday.

"It does not appear at this point to be a homicide," said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio of the death of Laura Cieckiewcz, 49, formerly of Lake Street.

Cieckiewcz has a daughter in Pennsylvania and a son in Illinois.

Monday at 9:52 a.m., Jersey City police were called to the park, located at Manhattan Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, when Cieckiewcz's body was spotted behind a playground and basketball courts, DeFazio said.

It appears she had been dead for several hours.

DeFazio said Cieckiewcz's home had been sold recently and since then she had had no permanent residence. There was no evidence to indicate she had spent the night in the park prior to her death, he added.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office's Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345.

Autopsy being done on unidentified woman's body found in park in Jersey City Heights

JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Jersey City police are hoping that an autopsy scheduled for this morning will reveal what killed an unidentified woman whose body was found in Leonard Gordon Park yesterday morning, officials said.

The body of the adult woman was found around 10 a.m. behind a playground and basketball courts in the northwest corner of the park, which is located at Manhattan Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard in the Heights.

The death does not appear suspicious and there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.

From Omar Dyer

Let me get this straight. According to your response I'm being led to believe Omar Dyer and TheFanNJ on youtube are two different people?. This 'another member' wouldn't happen to be you making brazen Nobel Prize claims would it?. Lol please provide something to back that up. It's nice to know that helping the homeless through whatever 'company' you speak of comes with a 20% fee to support a weirdo fraud like you. You're about as helpful to the homeless as free pairs of wet socks during a blizzard.

A quick google of 'Omar Dyer Nobel' led to some results and some laughs. Surprisingly all results lead back to the name: TheFanNJ. Not surprising to find that searching 'Omar Dyer' on Nobelprize.org lead to absolutely nothing. How dare the JCPD protect a lifeless body from a from a delusional self proclaimed nobel prize winning writer/documentary film maker aka weirdo stranger from obtaining 'good footage'. RiazW cosigning your videos is a bad look for the recall. I refuse to believe you don't know each other.

PS. Please next time, learn the workings of your camera so people can actually see something other than fuzzy zoomed in nonsense. I don't like questioning my 2020 vision when I roll out of bed in the late afternoon.

this is the description of the above youtube links.

"Police wouldn't allow us to get in the area to get good footage of a homeless man found dead in the park: (Today) 11/30/2010 -- The Police Commissioner was there, the JC rescue unit, and a few high profile elected leaders, where in the area. The body was found in Leonard Gordan Park which happened at 8am -- our crew walked in on this at 10:230 am. The body was still on the ground, and police wouldn't allow people or citizen's news to get any closer.

The Police Department in Jersey City does need help, and they are working hard to fight the levels of abuse in crime and homelessness -- yet the help they need is from the people to remove a reckless mayor. Mayor Jerramiah Healy should resign from office, and should note that he's the main reason why Jersey City has fallen off the cliff. This report isn't an attack on the police force, it's to report the stories of the unheard and the less fortunate."

What kind of a sick weirdo are you? Why would you want 'good footage of a homeless man found dead'? Props to the JCPD for protecting a potential crime scene, and protecting the guys body from becoming a 'citizens news' youtube video. aka A heartless no class attempt to spin this into something for your recall effort.

Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

The body of a man was found in a Jersey City park this morning.

Police at the scene say the man may have been homeless and perhaps succumbed to the cold weather last night.

The body was found behind playground, near the basketball courts in the northwest area of Leonard Gordon Park, at the corner of Manhattan Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard.

The park is also known as Mosquito Park.

Police at the scene did not say who discovered the body, or when it had been found.
