we're in the Heights, thinking about getting bars on the windows of our garden apartment, looking for someone we can work with to buy them and have them installed. any recommendations?

I've used All Iron Works also because I live in the 'hood and try to support local businesses. As others have commented, I felt that I could have made out better had I shopped their quote around.

They're reliable and the work was professional.

We used Willow Ironworks - they were responsive, on time and did good work.

We had a gate and a window installed - both were about what PBW said, about $700 total but the window was less (under $300 I think).

I paid about 650 for two.

I live in a condo and my neighbor took care of it, so I didn't price it out personally.

2 things.

Get the kind that has a lock and swings open. If there's a fire you want to be able to get out.

No one else on our block has them, and a few of the old-times made some disparaging comments. I think they either didn't like the look or thought it made the neighborhood look more dangerous. I really didn't care too much, but just be prepared for it.

Can anybody recommend a security contractor/lock smith for the quick and reliable installation of some iron security window bars/gates? Thanks.

Willow Iron Works (67 Pollock Ave, 201-659-7266) is a name that usually comes up in these threads. I've never worked directly with them, so can't comment on how it is to work with them or pricing, but they were a sub on a project of mine and made a basement access door that I'm very happy with.

they are ok - not the best, not the worst. you just have to be very specific about what they should do, and how much you should pay, and most importantly when.

they do their work in fits and bouts, so giving them the right incentive to work through the project is smart.

they are recommended with some reservations.

I was interested in putting iron fences around the tree islands near our building. Each would cost $650. If this is any indication of their prices in general - they are way too expensive.
right ... at first they are expensive, but they drop their prices fast, and at the end they are reasonable.

I used a guy by the name of Ortega. His number is 201 658 6805. I think the name of his business is Bergen Iron or something like that.

Anyway, he was really good and really well priced. We already had some iron work on our building but wanted to put in bars on the windows. He was able to perfectly match what was already there and installed the bars super quickly

I've seen some really cute vine-looking security bars on some homes. Would prefer more "artistic" bars but ultimately anything works. Anyone have an suggestions as to where to get the best product for the best price? Thx!
