I think "smarter than he's given credit for" is a more likely answer than not guilty. I think (as seems apparent in the Beldini complaint) that he knows the outer edges of the law - when to leave a room, how things can be structured to give the appearance of legality (or at a minimum, raise reasonable doubt), how to convince his lackeys to be his funnels to remove culpability from himself, etc. That's how I'm betting, anyhow.

I don't think it's that far fetched to entertain the notion that he is not guilty, especially considering that his record shows no incident of bribery, extortion or anything close to it.

In contrast, the runners-up in the last election can't claim the same.

It is certainly possible. But given that several of the people who were indicted were raising money for his campaign, it is also possible that he was just too smart or too lucky to get caught.

I have an open mind.

If Shaws death was suicide that says a lot about how deeply he was involved. In the news he says why are they going after me, my payment was small compared to 25 mil

If it was suicide, I doubt he killed himself for 10k.

Healy can sleep good? Well now there is one less partner in crime to ratt him out.

I for one do not believe the mayor is blind.
But he must think we are.

Last night I saw on the news that the Mayor of Secaucus resigned. The deputy Mayor, who is taking over for now, said, regarding the Mayor "Yeah. He's a real stand up guy and did what's right for the city."... ummmm.... ok?

By the way, what do Healy's weight and looks have to do with anything? I'd rather judge him solely on his actions (or inaction)... and, not for nothing, but he's not even that fat.

What a piece of crap Healy is. He looks like a turd anyway. So what was he doing at the meeting. Perhaps he was just there to pick up the tab.

I made no reference to his innocence or guilt in my post (even though I think he's guilty).

Healy is the one that says he sleeps fine.
Although, with my council in disarray, not sure why.

61? He looks closer to 80 in that photo. I'd suspect foul play, but he looks like he was in poor health.

A little more information is given in this update:

Jack Shaw of Jersey City, one of the 44 people arrested in Thursday's massive New Jersey corruption scandal, was found dead in his apartment this evening, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio has confirmed.

A relative found the 61-year-old political consultant's body, De Fazio said.

Police were called at 5:17 p.m. and Shaw was officially declared dead at 6 p.m.

Homicide investigators as well as the regular police contingent responded, DeFazio said, noting that no weapon was found.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death, he said.

In the criminal complaint against Shaw, he is accused of taking $10,000 from the government informant for himself and an additional $10,000 in campaign contribution for an unnamed Jersey City official.

The longtime consultant had been a keen observer of the rough-and-tumble world of Hudson County politics for decades.

Local and state elected officials, including the Governor, have begun to publicly call for the these crooks to resign. News stories to that effect are in papers all across the state. Media is all over this story and will be in JC tomorrow to see it live. Hoboken dems are calling for the mayor of that city to resign. Yet, all we have heard from the council, save for one member, is deafening silence. Healy has suspended city employees, which does not include Vega's council duties, nor his position as president of the council.

There is no law which requires these people to resign. Only pressure from the public, media, and other elected officials can achieve this since hoping that these crooks have some shame, accept the consequences of selling the public trust, and resigning immediately is a long shot.

Tomorrow is critical.

I'll be there bright and early with a sign and plenty throat lozenges. Hope it will be impossible for them to get into city hall due to the size of the crowd.
