I honestly think it may have something to do with the Path being underneath Columbus Dr and that the city found complications here with paving the street above the Path. I think this may be why Fulop is not responding to my emails about this.

Columbus drive is a freaking embarrassment!

Been that way for years.

Also, unreal that a city with as much investment as JC has seen needs Federal Stimulus money to cover street paving!

WHERE HAVE THE $$$ BEEN GOING?

WTF IS THE PROBLEM? GET COLUMBUS PAVED!!!

The election is over, and Healy won. Do not expect any roadwork until February or March 2013...A pity Healy wasn't forced into a runoff. That way, we'd at least benefit from a few more weeks of frantic street paving and other public works improvements.

Has anyone heard any updates recently about the paving of Christopher Columbus Dr? They conveniently stopped paving between Brunswick and Monmouth, precisely where the road begins to totally fall apart. I've email Fulop several times about it and have not gotten a response. There must be something going on.

The road is really in a dangerous condition and a complete eye sore. Does anyone have suggestions of other people to contact?

No sadly it is just Brunswick that they are repaving!

Yeah, Newark Avenue really needs it but who knows when that will ever happen - I hope this $4.6 Million is used ASAP to repave Newark all the way from Grove all the way up the hill - "Hell all the way to Ton-nell-e!!!!"

To bad that doesn't really rhyme!

I think the worst stretch of pavement as far as potholes is concerned is the drawbridge on Rt 7. It's literally a mine field and it's been that way for years now.

I saw men today with pavement saws on Newark. Is this part of the re-pavement project? They tore up Brunswick between Newark and 1st but have yet to return to repave. Wondering how long that will take. If they tear up Newark that could be a really long while. Newark really does need work. Happy they are doing it.

That's a LOT more expensive than when I last checked.

I wonder if the city would entertain my bid of $2 million for the work...but then I don't KNOW anybody.

great point ^^

however i feel there are much dire streets in jersey city that need repaving... ok newark is ok... but one street that DEF needs to be paved is christopher columbus drive (or is it ave or st?) anyway... its a hell to drive up columbus to get to montgomery...

A few blocks? try miles! -- Get a map!

Newark Avenue between Tonnelle Avenue and Coles Street AND Sip Ave between Kennedy and Bergen.

It is really important that Newark Avenue gets repaved ASAP! It is like the surface of the moon! Also this includes the installation of those red handicapped curb ramps, replacement of catch basins, and installation of bicycle-safe grates.

I just hope the new Crossing lines/white lines at intersections help really stop the traffic from endlessly running the stop lights especially at the bottom of the hill -- an elderly lady got killed on the hill last year -- they should also add some cameras and/or have police bust the psychos racing through town and running the lights!

It is great to see the repaving of all of Newark Avenue - and not just the repaving of the first few blocks by Grove Street as the old plan had!!!

YEAH -- finally NEWARK AVE will be repaved!!!!
========================
Jersey City gets money for street repaving

by Amy Sara Clark
Wednesday March 18, 2009

Jersey City has received $4.6 million in federal stimulus funds to resurface parts of Newark and Sip avenues, city officials announced Tuesday.

"This funding is a vital infusion of dollars that will assist us locally in maintaining the conditions of our roads," Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy said in a statement.

The project -- which applies specifically to Sip Avenue between Kennedy Boulevard and Bergen Avenue and Newark Avenue between Tonnelle Avenue and Coles Street -- will also include installation of handicapped curb ramps, replacement of catch basins, and installation of bicycle-safe grates.

"Motorists on Newark and Sip avenues will benefit from much smoother and safer driving conditions following the implementation of this project," said Healy.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds were distributed through the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority.

NJTPA funds are also slated to improve county roads in Jersey City, including Kennedy Boulevard and Paterson Plank Road.
