Great idea.....

Then the block could have two parks and we would have our choice: drugs or no drugs.

i called the city to complain.

I'm thinking a Federal Drug Rehab Center is likely, probably with an adjunctive outpatient clinic for methadone maintenance.

Good news! Especially if it has its own parking so that it doesn't cause a net decrease of street parking availability.

I hope Columbus Corners happens eventually too.

This is great news.

The tide may finally start to turn there....

Anything that puts "more of us" and "less of them" there is great news.

It has to start somewhere, right? You could have said the same thing of all of downtown at some point or another. It's one thing to have to deal with an entire town of seedy characters but one block on Wayne? Much easier to deal with.

Just remember what the Grove St path area looked like before Grove Pointe, Duane Reade and Starbucks came in. It's definitely changed and will continue to do so.

Oops, I'm being positive :) Sorry guys!

I live right around the corner. I swear, there is always at least one guy with his door open, seated outside on skanky furniture like Redd Fox on Sanford and Son EVERY time I drive by.

the crazy part is those "gray shacks"? It really is, if you squint, the same Victorian home(s) you see in the rendering of the site on jcvibe. For real!

Yeah, the Columbus Corner project is different from the one about to begin. I'd be surprised if a project of that scale would be able to secure financing in the current environment. I love how the JCVibe site describes those gray shacks on the northeast corner of Wayne & Barrow as "Victorian-style" - they're the biggest eyesores on the block! Some sort of Section 8 housing with sketchy types always loitering on the stoops (the same guys who used to hang out and get into fights at the old El Negro).

I'm floored that any developer would take on that location if they had any clue as to how difficult sales will be given the cast of characters on that block. Nothing like a broker marching potential buyers thru the drug deals, drunks, etc as they're going to check out their dreamhome.

Will be very curious to see what they do with that space...

This link actually profiles Columbus Corner which is/was planned for the eastern side of Barrow.

The construction which is about to begin, at the corner of Wayne and Barrow, is on the western side of Barrow.

In any case, I am mighty curious to see what rises on that corner and how long construction will actually take.

Given that I live kind of near it, I'm hoping it doesn't take too, too long -- guess we'll see!

Good. Maybe the drug dealers on that block will move on. That bodega on Wayne is a poor excuse for a front if I ever did see one. It's such as shame as the Barrow Mansion and those Queen Anne townhouses are amazing.

I think the proposal is for a 12-unit condo building plus parking.

Looks like the parking lot at Wayne & Barrow is about to turn into a new building. I recall seeing a flyer a while back about the proposed project - I think it mentioned a 10-story residential unit. Anyone know any details about what's actually going on?
