Area around dixon mills isnt the best but it is O K. As long as you are not a complete dumbarse walking around with a pink ipod in the middle of the night.

Most other parts of jersey city are much much worse, you literally cannot walk outside at night. Ask the guys around beacon :) /flame on

murder/suicide

multiple muggings

That's not the point I'm trying to make. The point is that this type of shit happens everywhere.

I'm just saying that there were a bunch of muggings, murder and rape on the UWS just last week. You don't see people walking around saying the UWS is dangerous.
Yes, we have some stoop creatures on Wayne Sreet, and I wish that they would get lost but I don't worry that they are going to rob me. It's the same old drunks that are out there everyday. It would be pretty easy to pick them out of a line up.

Am I the only one that recalls all the muggings, break-ins, car theft, attempted rape and most recently the homicide?

Sure, it's safe enough most of the time but it seems like some people are painting a very rosy picture.

I agree!! I know a lot of people who take a look around, pass judgement on the type of people they see, and decide that they think it's unsafe. Clearly they haven't gotten to live in a real city.

I once brought a friend to where I was living in Queens. I liked it there, it was fine, but it is nicer here in Jersey City. She was walking from the train with me, and decided she didn't like it. I asked her why and she said "There's too much diversity".

I wanted to cry.

we live by there. You really should have any problems. They offer shuttle bus service to and from the grove path station if youre really concerned take that or a cab. You can always adopt a nice dog. Keep allot of people away. Otherwise theres not too much to worry about in the area. Just use your head and street smarts.

So.. where's Avenue E huh?

Yeah.. ok. I think that's a pretty ignorant statement.

I've lived down the street on the other side of Montgomery for 12 years. Have not heard of problems. In fact, I always chuckle at the little bus for 3 blocks of walking. I'm sure it's handy in the pouring rain or late at night, but otherwise I've never had any problems walking up Columbus -- except for the occasional construction project.

Get with the program people - Buying or Renting an apartment at Dixon Mills is like winning the GOLDEN TICKET to Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory !

pretty safe all things equal. Big difference between JC and East Village is that there is a lot less foot traffic and far fewer bars/retail establishments open at night. So that said it can seem desolate/quiet walking home at night. I agree with the poster that said take a cab or walk west on Christopher Columbus where there's at least vehicle traffic.

this is crap. the area is safe as long as you use common sense. just walk down c columbus at night. i have lived here for ten years without a problem and bought in dixon mills over a year ago and love it. for the price, the space can't be beat. the gym is set to open in paril as well which will be a nice addition.

I disagree completely with what Shadow said. I lived in Dixon Mills for three years or so and never had any problems. During the day it's fine, and walking back from the Grove Street PATH and the bars/restaurants on Newark and Grove at night were no problems either. Keep in mind that it is a city though, and it's not like you're moving to a completely crime-free area. The security guards at Dixon are a good deterrent, but there are still occasional instances that take place in the area that you'll probably read about here. The East Village definitely has more pedestrian traffic than the area, especially late at night, but you can always take a cab if you're that concerned. And you've lived in Manhattan - it's not like you're moving from a suburb. Just keep your wits about you and use common sense (no headphones/ipod while you're walking, careful using your phone, etc), and you'll be fine.

Hi,

My first post here. My fiancee and I are thinking of buying a place in NJ in general and we love the community feel of Dixon Mills.

However, the neighborhood doesnt feel too safe to us. I'd love some info into how the locals feel about the area of Wayne and the walk from / to Grove PATH, area next to bars / restaurants in the neighborhood. Has it been improving over last year or 2 years? What are your views on the future?

We're both young professionals (29), working in the city and have lived in east village / alphabet city for quite some time - so we are comfortable with a bit of a shady areas (ave C, not D)

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

area is ok, nothing like the areas outside of downtown. Just be alert.

Also there are cabs usually waiting right outside of grove path, if it's late i would just take a cab, it's like 4-5 bucks.

It's fine. I live there with my girlfriend who is a pettite blonde and she never has any trouble. I love the area. The Wayne st playground is a little shady but the JCPD has been all over them in the recent months.
Welcome to the building!!

The Wayne street playground is a little shady but they have never bothered me (being a girl). Anyways, check it out at night if you can just to make sure you feel comfortable. I think that the dixon mills area is safer then many areas in JC. But everyone has a different comfortable level when it comes to areas in which to live. Good luck!

It is no less safe than any other area. The playground on Wayne is not the best spot in the world, but no one will bother you. Most of those guys stick to their own. There are lots of people that commute to the city and walk home at that time. That being said, it is still an urban environment and you should always be aware of your surroundings.

I am very close to putting an offer in for a condo at dixon mills. I have only been in the area during the day. How safe is it for a girl to walk home at night. I usually get home around 7-8 during the week. I heard there have been some concerns about the area.
