Don't worry, I don't know why the story doesn't mention it, but these folks were taken into custody by the FBI. I'm sure Dr. Chaz's plans won't last long.

This is not a matter for Epps and his admin board to supervise, seeing how closely tied they are to the problem.
For example, it is said that the BoE has been without adequate internal supervision for a long time.

These actions by the BoE workers, if true, are criminal. It's called tax fraud, and it's not merely an administrative matter whether outside payrolls were involved or not... or to what extent they were.

Allowing it to happen, from BoE heads and Epps, if demonstrated, is evidence of poor stewardship, incompetence, or worse.

Jersey City needs a Chris Christie to clean house.

The four workers face several administrative charges, including conduct unbecoming a public official.

Why can't our city have this administrative charge....."conduct unbecoming a public official". We could thin all the scumbags out of city hall real quick, if they would hold people accountable for their actions there.

Too funny, how can that possibly be if Healy and Co. can still be in office with their issues ?

4 Jersey City ed board workers suspended in alleged payroll scheme

by Earl Morgan
The Jersey Journal
Friday November 21, 2008

Four Jersey City Board of Education payroll office employees were suspended, pending a departmental hearing, for allegedly manipulating the amount of withholding taxes deducted from their paychecks and the number of dependents they claimed, Jersey City Superintendent of Schools Charles Epps Jr. confirmed this afternoon.

Epps declined to divulge the names of the suspended employees, but he confirmed that three woman and one man are involved. He said no criminal charges have been filed against them.

"At this point we're conducting an internal investigation of the matter," Epps said.

The four workers face several administrative charges, including conduct unbecoming a public official.

All of the suspended employees worked in the JCBE payroll office. Departmental hearings for all four could be convened as early as next week, Epps said.

"At this point," Epps said, "we don't believe, outside of the people involved, any other payrolls have been tampered with or compromised."
