These neighborhood bars are a hassle for all residents living within earshot. I lived near Simple, a relatively mild place, and it was a pain in the ass. The people out front smoking and talking loudly on cellphones was enough to make any resident pissed off. Whether a "latin" lounge or a "yuppie" pub the operators should take more responsibility for the behavior of their patrons in and around their property. I don't see why any business should be operating in a residential area past 12am on weekdays or 2am on weekends. The unforeseen consequence of the smoking ban was to drive patrons out into the streets where they don't belong. The events of last weekend can happen anywhere when you mix alcohol and a**holes. We need more DWI checkpoints in JC as well. Perhaps, if it hasn't happened already, the Village neighborhood Assoc. should bring these bar owners to their next meeting and hash these things out. BTW Shane is absolutely a JC Lifer.

It?s one thing to credit this forum for spreading "neighborhood issues" but when it?s used for sharing misguided information, making false allegation, finger pointing, and exaggerated FACTS it becomes very disappointing.

How did this incident even become a Latin Lounge or Lamp Post issue in the first place? Neither of the 2 locations were even mentioned in the newspaper.

The big picture is getting repeated offenders, criminals, and drug dealers out of our city, NOT just YOUR neighborhood RobC. If were going to make a difference, let's make a difference City Wide.
And for the record no I am Not WOW08.

It still doesn't change the fact that the Latin Lounge attracts trouble, it's as simple as that. Every Friday and Saturday night especially in the summer, at 3:30am till dawn, packs of drunk and coked up individuals blast music and try to solicit women all through the streets. I mean - go home! Idiots. And the fact of the matter is this, the Lamp Post does not atract that type of crowd nor does Indios which is around the corner. So it's more than an assumption, it's based on fact and experience that the Latin Lounge is a s**thole which attracts a**holes. Sorry, it's just fact. Yes, there were victims, but there are victims every Friday and Saturday night including all of us who have to deal with the immature actions of the patrons who frequent the Latin Lounge.

Post your opinion about this: About how our system "GOOD" our system is!?! How can a man get charged with aggravated assault when he used his YUKON ( A LARGE SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE) to try and kill someone!

Robert "Chino" Cosme, 29, of 68th Street in Guttenberg, was charged yesterday morning with aggravated assault after he surrendered to police at his lawyer's office in Jersey City.

You are all going beside the point that there are victims in this case...The entire argument here is that people have their own opinion about Latin Lounge and the Lamp Post!?

Why is it Important to anyone of you If I am Bren12 or Wow08...Trust me, No need to log in twice as a different individual....Like Webmaster stated, CORPORATE ACCOUNT, meaning; I HAVE WORK TO DO!!! Therefore, I do not have the time to log on as two individuals!!! I am NOT Bren12! I just wanted my opinion to be heard!

As this happened to Latin Lounge, IT can happen to any other BAR!!! Should we penalize the BAR because of an insane individual?Did we ever put thought to the fact the Bar?s owners and their staffs are also victims in this case?

PEPO, have you ever heard of a TYPO??? How old are you 10???Pin pointing typographical errors!

Lifelong resident and I can say for sure that the area was always referred to as the village. That stopped when the new gentry moved in.

I would like to thank everyone who reached out to me via email, and those that accepted my invitation to attend The Village Neighborhood Association's monthly meeting last night. I would also like to thank Lt. Alvarez from the east district police department, Councilman Fulop, and the owners of both The Latin Lounge and The Lamp Post for attending as well. Last night was an important first step in making our neighborhood a safer place to live.

As posted by GrovePath, the suspect did turn himself in to police yesterday. Unfortunately, We also learned last night that he posted bail shortly thereafter.

JCList serves an important function in elevating specific neighborhood issues into the citywide dialogue. I credit this forum for giving our association the means to reach all those involved in this matter.

On another note, I echo SalOnTheHill's post regarding The Village. I would also like to add that the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy hosts an incredible walking tour of The Village most springs, I strongly urge everyone to attend.

Charge suspect in SUV attack

Friday, February 29, 2008

Police have arrested a man who they say struck two people with his SUV at Brunswick and Second streets in Jersey City early Sunday morning.

Robert "Chino" Cosme, 29, of 68th Street in Guttenberg, was charged yesterday morning with aggravated assault after he surrendered to police at his lawyer's office in Jersey City.

Cosme, apparently enraged after discovering that a Second Street bar was closed, used his white GMC Yukon to run down two men at about 3:35 a.m., hitting one of them repeatedly, police reports said.

One of the victims, a 26-year-old Lincoln Street resident who witnesses said was hit at least four times, was taken to Jersey City Medical Center with head injuries, where he was listed in stable condition last night. The other victim, a 27-year-old man, was not seriously hurt.

There has been a neighborhood known as "The Italian Village" in downtown Jersey City for generations. Some folks shorten it to "the Village". How is this news?

Don't believe me? Ask any of the multiple generations of Italian families living on 2nd Street west of Newark Avenue. Or the owners of the 2nd Street Bakery. In fact, yes, please go into 2nd Street Bakery and tell them there's no such neighborhood as the Italian Village. That should clear things right up.

After finally getting the place shut down - some Williamsburgers wax nostalgically for Kokie's coke bar.

bren12 and WOW08 also both used the word "sweety" when addressing another person in the thread.

just another coincidence for you.

edit: Oh, and since when is my neighborhood called "the Village"? Someone went through all the trouble to map out the coordinates and start a neighborhood association, and all they could come up with was "the Village"?

I already said what I was trying to say, anything else is speculation.

It could be a complete coincidence that two people using the computers at the same company both register here today, both posted 7 times today, both post in the same forum topic, both have a similar opinions, and both have the same IP address, but do not know each other.

The IP address is not from Goldman Sachs and I will not reveal the company. I mentioned that it is a company to give the benefit of doubt that many people could be working there with the same IP address on multiple computers. If it were an ISP like Comcast then we could be sure that both users were from the same computer.

Anyway it looks suspicious.

sullyX: No sweety, I am not the owner nor the manager of Latin Lounge. I am someone who like you with The Lamp Post know the entire staff at Latin Lounge and I can honestly say that the owners along with their staff are loving and caring individuals who will do anything in their power to control situations such as the one that occured!

Could it have been prevented, it would've!

No I don't know who WOW08 is nor am I the manager, or owner of the Latin Lounge. But are you the owner or manager of the Lamp Post? since your so certain that it did not occur by the Lamp Post.

This was a misfortunate incident that could have occured anywhere.

RobC, it think its clear that this incident is neither a Latin Lounge issue nor a Lamp Post issue. However, you seem to clearly point fingers at just one location. Both bars were closed when the incident occured and it happened in front of both locations; Lating Lounge and Lamp Post.

As I stated before, if your so concerned with the safety of your neighborhood, then in my opinion all bars in the vacinity should be shut down.
