Newark Ave. continues on past sixth street?? Huh.

Why not just limit music to the end of the pier and have a decibel limit after 10 PM? I get that the acoustics mean that loud sound does really weird things when it's by the statue, but 9 PM, really? I didn't realize that exchange place had been converted to a senior living community.

The buildings make the acoustics in that area crazy. You get every little festival with the same food & shop stands setting up over the summer with the bass going like crazy and the way the buildings create wind tunnels around at Exchange Place sound travels unbelievably. They have spring/summer music at the end of the pier which is lovely and never obnoxiously loud. But then you have a festival around that statue with a sound guy with speakers the size of his van who doesn't give a sh*t about bass and it's nuts. Maybe they're just trying to curb bad taste.

The best cultural festival is the Bolivian parade.

Would you like to hear the same beat for 10 hours?

There are a lot of ethnic festivals held there during the spring and summer.

I have to LOL at this. Jersey City, which has an astonishing lack of live music and entertainment for a city of its size, comes up with a proposed ordinance to limit such things, which are nearly non existent? Furthermore, in one of most dead parts of town? Hilarious.

Please let me know when there are string quartet soirees, I would love to hear them.

On another note, are deejays deaf? Maybe that's the problem. I don't go to many parties, but I find some of them have awful speakers and the base is way too high.

> There is music by Exchange Place?

That what I wondered, my only thought is this may be a backdoor way to limit some of the festivals and parades they hold down there?

Robin.

Why just Exchange Place and why just music? Shouldn't such ordinances apply to noise levels at open-air events city-wide? Kind of silly that we could ban, say string quartet soirees, but allow late night open air movie screening at Exchange Place. Guess the Monsters of Rock concert in HP is still on though.

Liberty State park needs a Bandshell -- like Prospect Park & Central Park -- and a weekend flea market while we are at it.
