I would like a Ferris Wheel and a Roller Coaster and an In-n-out Burger and also possibly a Waffle House, please.

There's a large industrial area in the middle of the park near Black Tom, just north of the golf course. It's directly across from the Statue of Liberty. Who would object if some of those buildings/parking lots were replaced with a race track?

Shouldn't be hard to provide a source if there was one.

I think you'd have to reverse that and have the hotel on the army site and the track off of Morris Pessin as I think there is more room there.

No, that won't happen.

You first. Show me where you read it's going in the park, then I will respond.

PS ? Jersey City already has a race track it is the length of rt 440 from Danforth Avenue to the Bayonne city line. Every few nights between midnight and 2 am about 30 cars race back and forth with their cheap foreign mufflers blaring. Just ask anyone who lives in SH or CV. The JCPD and County do nothing to stop them.

I think they mean total jobs, including construction jobs. Heck, the little diner on the circle will need a platoon of waitresses and cooks for the workers during the start up! And if the diner owner owns the land he'll become a 1%er when he cashes out!

I don't think a speedway belongs there, but it would probably fit.

I'd love to see them justify getting rid of all the industrial jobs there for this thing!

I really don't think a casino is the place to start. I also don't think tourists will be hip to the idea of vacationing at a resort and golf course in Jersey City. There would be plenty of golfers who come for the day, I suppose, but they will just spend their money at any restaurant/bar that is right on the course. The surrounding neighborhood businesses won't benefit.

Whatever kind of industry that comes to Jersey City, there needs to be some kind of public-private partnership with the city to provide job training and other life management skills, or this is just going to be another wasted effort with most of the jobs going to people outside of JC (as was the case in Atlantic City).

During the Barclays, they ran shuttle buses from Newport to the golf course. In theory, they could have a similar setup, running shuttle vans from any public lot(s) in JC, I would imagine...

One would assume they have an idea of where they are putting things but it is a good question. If you took the whole area just south of the park I think you could fit a speedway but then there wouldn't be much room for a casino. I suppose the footprint of the building doesn't need to be that large and I would guess they mostly just want to punt on parking and say take mass transit, which would obviously not work with that many people.

Just south of the park is the golf course and point liberte. There really isn't much undeveloped land there.

That land you speak of is going to be a 14 story condo, they have already started working on it.

The unemployment rate in Greenville will barely budge after a casino has been built. Did casinos have much of an effect on Atlantic City's unemployment rate? No.

I've seen different numbers from various sources, but I believe it was about 14% before the casinos and is in the 12% range now.

The poverty rate is higher in Atlantic City than it was before the casinos. Putting a place that promises thousands of jobs near an impoverished neighborhood will have a minimal effect. I don't want to disparage the residents of Greenville, but it is a fact that when the casinos came to Atlantic City, many of the local residents were simply unemployable. Many of those that did get hired by the casinos didn't show up for their shifts, had poor hygiene and other problems. There was no job training at all by the casinos and people had to be hired well outside the boundaries of Atlantic City and moved in from Nevada as well.

When the Borgata was built, they did make a commitment to hire at least 2000 unemployed and underemployed people with an Atlantic City address. They built a job training center with people who not only trained the would-be employees with the skills they needed to work in a casino, but also various "life management" skills such as grooming yourself for work and living within a budget. That was something that made a dent in the group of Atlantic City residents that faced chronic unemployment, but one casino can only do so much. Unless this casino plans something similar, I don't see the unemployment and poverty rates in Greenville changing much.

The fact is, we're not in the industrial rust belt where there is nowhere to work and no opportunities. There are already plenty of jobs out there for people in Greenville and other poor neighborhoods. But the problems run much deeper in those neighborhoods for many people and simply putting up job listings is not going to change much. Please don't misunderstand me - I don't think people in those neighborhoods are lazy or want to perpetually live on government assistance by any means. But many people in those neighborhoods need much more than just job openings to turn things around.
This is just your opinion, and you are entitled to it.
If you think a casino in Jersey City is the miracle cure that Greenville needs, feel free to go to the council meetings and speak your mind in favor of it. Then take a good long look at Greenville five or so years after the casino has been built, and tell me what has changed.

Please don't misunderstand me - I don't think everybody in those neighborhoods are lazy or want to perpetually live on government assistance by any means. But many people in those neighborhoods need much more than just job openings to turn things around.

Where exactly would a 100, 000 person stadium plus parking go? There's no room down there.

The said Atlantic City would employ locals and it was total BS except for the most menial, low wage jobs. All the dealers and host/hostesses were brought in from other places.

You are freaking idiot monroe. I know that this would only bring trouble to JC. The money brought by jobs would be lost by gambling losses by residents. Also I use to live next to an amateur NASCAR racetrack and the noise was unbearable when they were racing.
