NOTHING! zero, NADA! Because thats exactly what I have gotten every single time I have had a problem in my unit, over the past 6 years. I would be more then happy to tip him, but I feel he should earn it. I'll take his $50 tip and go to A&P and buy stuff for a food drive. Happy Holidays!

I generally tip my super $50 but I might increase it this year due to inflation. This is a condo and he basically provides no extra services, not that I ask. In the past, only 3 or 4 units have tipped -- my bldg. sucks.

We finally have a regular mailman here and he's a delight. He walks up 4 flights to deliver packages. I plan to give him $50. I don't think they're supposed to take gifts though, but this is JC where such rules are considered theoretical.

AND, I plan to tip the UPS guy who carries huge packages up 4 flights and always has a smile. This is a far cry from several years ago where they wouldn't go past the lobby to deliver.

The Times delivery guy is always a quandary. It seems they change every month or so and ironically, the service gets decent around this time of year. Last year, I did something a bit unorthodox and perhaps ridiculous -- the new guy was working about a week when he left the merry xmas gimme money card with the paper. I left him $10 and told him if the delivery was still satisfactory in 2 months I'd throw in more loot.

I give the barber the cost of a haircut and shave, my usual service.

I'm stuck on what to give the cleaning lady who I've had for several months and does a great job. The cost of a cleaning?

Of course, all this is contingent upon finding a job and whether I have enough money left over after buying myself much needed toys. :)

I?m speaking of the smaller condo building not the mega ones. I've had him help me with hanging lighting, change switches to dimmers etc. and did pay him something, but always mega less then getting an electrician. All of these things were done on the side not through Mgt Company.

Did you pay to have the apt painted? In my bldg, the super does things, but a work order is filled out and we are charged. therefore they are not doing you any special favors. $50 should be plenty, unless he did all this work for free. The it should ne higher.

If the super has done work that goes above and beyond, I gave $100. This was only in one building where the super was always doing things for me that I couln't do myself.( considering what it would cost to get painters, plumbers etc.) For the guys who did trash, maintain lobby I would give 20. The dog walker gets two weeks pay. And I do not tip the mailman!

I thought this may have been discussed before but nothing came up in my search. Please help settle a "discussion" between my husband and I. How much is reasonable to tip your super at year's end? Ours has done some painting and light work over the year. We rent, so husband says we can give less. I say we're in the building either way - rent or own makes no difference. He says 50, I say 100.
Thoughts?
