People do not plan wedding showers, birthday parties, or other events at Burger King. The city is hurting traditional restaurants without the parking.

Burger King was founded in 1954 - I'd say it's pretty traditional.

I would think that the meters would help businesses - it cuts down on people parking there for the night and leaving their cars there right after work (or paying for the 1 hr from 5-6 pm and then leaving it till 8 am)

if you are suggesting that having to pay for metered parking (which is usually about $0.25/15 min so about $2 for a normal 2 hour dinner) would discourage people from going to a restaurant then I think that you don't give the restaurants much credit.... I can't imagine going someplace for dinner and seeing a meter and saying oh I guess I will just go to burger king instead since it has parking and I don't want to pay the $2 for a meter.

Restaurants don't own street parking, nor does any small or large business - The balancing act for city hall is to time restrict the area so ALL businesses benefit (including any visitor to a resident living above a business) a frequent change-over of motorists and not just the clients that might sit in a restaurant for a few hours at the cost of others.

If dumb-ass businesses aren't aware of parking restrictions to an area before starting a business, then they haven't prepared their business plan or done due diligence correctly and shouldn't whine about parking ... imagine if McD's or KFC relied on street parking?
If the Coach House is whining about parking then I'm betting they are struggling financially and looking for excuses and not at their own poor business practices !

The idea behind parking meters I believe, was to teach motorists how to share - Some motorist struggle with the concept of sharing a parking bay, so timed restrictions had to be put in place to force sharing ... the money side of it, is revenue

Meters HELP businesses, not hurt them. It keeps residents from long term parking in those spots after at and allows for more space turnover for business customers to utilize.

Ordinance was passed several months ago. I guess the city has been slow to roll it on in each area/put stickers on meters.

I drove to Central ave... something I haven't done for a while. I notices the stickers on the parking meters say metered parking is in effect until 9:00 PM now. Before it was 6:00 PM.

When did this change take place?
