I saw your likely culprit walking down Newark Ave around 6 pm tonight, with a big handful of white petunias, dirt still hanging from the bottom.

They're all in her backyard--that's why. You have to enter through the parking lot on 9th, between Coles and Monmouth. Her place is the second one in from 9th--next to the place on the corner with the added top floor.

All this said, I have no real proof that she's the culprit. But this is the person everyone suspects (and some say they've seen clutching plants with dirt still clinging to the roots.

It really blows my mind that someone would dig plants out of planters and walk away with a plant in a pile of dirt.

I honestly did go walk by the 9th and Coles area looking for my stolen plant because I was so annoyed. I know there is no way that woman is seeing these posts but I really hope she stops if this was her. I truthfully didn't find my plant but I am keeping my eye out now!

Someone stole two plants out of one of my planters last night on 5th Street. It was after 10pm, before 5am.

I don't know this woman, but from what I've read I'm guessing that she's not at home reading jclist. Maybe one of you that has been her victim should post a note on her door or send her a letter telling her that she's being watched and if she steals any more plants she will be arrested.

I walked past this woman's place - it appears as though the suggestion it is this woman could be possible (just look at the yard). I took photos but really, what am I to do with them other than have her SEE me take photos so she stops these shenanigans?

I have no proof but if someone does, please do us a favor and politely call the non-emergency police line. Yes, they have many better crimes to solve, but in talking to my neighbors it may very well be a little, odd epidemic she'll continue and if she's ill, perhaps her children can sternly warn her she isn't doing those of us around Hamilton who are trying to improve our 'hood any favors.

I planted pyracantha bushes around my place. The thorns make these things nature's answer to the iron maiden. So they are fairly theft proof and help improve security when you plant them around windows.

She's on Coles, between 9th and 10th, closer to 9th. She also likes portulacas (stole mine two weeks ago, but left the vincas and coleus). She doesn't like impatiens--too pedestrian, I assume.
I, too, have peered over her fence and seen her backyard, and it's like a garden junkyard. I've considered leaving a note on her door. I know that one of her neighbors spoke sternly to her and his window boxes haven't been touched since.

Understand your anger.... I have seen some vandalized planters/ flower beds in Paulus Hook area... business or neighbors take the time to do something nice and drunks or punks ruin displays in seconds!

I've never seen her but she like daisies a lot, and tall plants in particular. She doesn't take petunias, marigolds or snapdragons. Makes me want to sow my planters with fish hooks.

The only thing worse was when someone raided our peach trees before we had a gate and stole every last one. People suck.

she's on Coles, and once, while holding the crocuses and dirt she'd just dug up from her neighbor's garden, she told the neighbor she had no idea where his crocuses had gone.

You walked past my well chained flower pots outside my house. The ones my child and I planted ourselves. "Why the chains Daddy?".

You placed your hands in the pots and scooped out the geraniums. Awesome. I can just see your undignified, and likely very ugly mug walking down the sidewalk dropping dirt as you head off to your house to plant the $4.99 flower in your own garden. But I just can't imagine you having your own garden, that takes pride. You must have given it to someone whose pants you wanted to get in to. "Why would someone take our plants Daddy?". "Because son, there are low life's who are so cheap they would steal your two front teeth if they thought the tooth fairy was real." Shit. Now I have to explain that yes the tooth fairy is real and that no, no douche is going to rob you for your teeth.
