You two crack me up. Why is Whole Foods a joke? Sort of immature to name call people because of their opinions don't you think?

So to get to Tendershoots and Continental, do you need a car? And if you use one are you a pathetic yuppie? I am new to area.

Crazy Chester...does that have to do with the character from The Band song?

A&P and Morton Williams are perfectly fine, as are the smaller grocers like Tender Shoots and Continental, but you have to be kidding about C-Town and La Conga.

Anyway, the point of this article was that NJ wants certain SUPERmarkets in poorer communities (PathMark), to clean up their act.

So what exactly makes the ones you listed so nice? Because it says "organic" or some other crap you probely buy into, that makes it "nice"? Grow your own garden if you want"nice" food.

Funny how you get ragged on for wishing there was a really nice supermarket downtown. I'm sure the raggers don't drive a nice car or have other nice things they like to spend their money on. I like a nice supermarket like Whole Foods, Wegmans, Trader Joes etc to shop in. So sue me. Like I said it's expensive living here. I chose to spend my money to live here. So what's wrong with expressing a desire for a nice supermarket?

You people are such whiners. Whats the problem with A&P? or Morton Williams? If you need something that fancy remember you live about a mile from the greatest city in America, im sure you can find whatever your little hearts desire there.

You could have said the same thing about Tribeca a couple of years ago. It'll change - be patient. Nothing big is getting done in the current environment that wasn't already on the drawing board.

Morton Williams isn't shitty. The renovated A&P isn't bad. But, yeah, we could do a lot better.

N.J. to focus on supermarkets in poorer communities

by The Star-Ledger Continuous News Desk
Wednesday July 22, 2009

New Jersey is starting a program to encourage food companies to build supermarkets or renovate existing ones in poorer communities, a report in the Press of Atlantic City said.

According to the report, the program will combine private investment with public funding to offer low-interest loans to supermarket operators. Officials say supermarkets generate jobs, serve as a catalyst for economic development and provide access to food at affordable prices, but many operators have migrated to wealthier suburbs.

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority gave the program preliminary approval Tuesday, the first step in a $7 million contribution from the state agency funded by Atlantic City's gaming industry. About $5 million will go for supermarkets in northern New Jersey and $2 million for the southern half of the state.

In addition, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority will give $4 million, and $7 million will be from private funding from TRF, a Philadelphia-based investment group.
