What bothers me most is that Danny's Towing is right here in the neighborhood. Day in, day out he tows his victims through the streets of downtown to his garage. I know there are those who will say he's just making an honest living, but if your money comes from screwing your neighbors, you're a sad soul.
The towing sign by BJ's is too small and old to be noticed as it should. That is part of the game. And there is no doubt that they are all in bed together playing that good old fashioned game of "kick-back."

I contacted Steve Fulop about this but realistically there's nothing he can do. I wrote to the State Attorney General's office and received no reply. And so it goes.

You mean zone permit, resident permit parking is different. Zone parking has a 2 hour limit, where resident parking does not allow parking.

My guess is that for every buck the mall owner makes for parking, the mall merchants lose $2-5 worth of sales to annoyed local customers who don't want to pay to run into the mall for something, and go to Target, BB&B or some other option.

with parking only $1.25 if you spend up to 2 hrs at the mall (after getting the JC resident discount), there really is no reason to park at pep boys

I am impressed that they can remember who goes with which car. If you go into Shoprite, spend 15 minutes in there, then come out, walk over to the mall, how can they possibly remember which car you came from? especially when it it busy!

OMG, InTheHeights, did you just move here recently? This topic has been done to death on JCList, and the Webmaster will merge your thread with the one begun ages ago on this same topic. The upshot: Yes, we all know NOT to park there and shop at the mall. And NO, you won't find any sympathy on this forum for getting towed if you did indeed park at BJ's/ShopRite to avoid paying a few bucks for mall parking.

Seen them with their talkies/two-ways eyeing folks at all hours any day of the week.

Word to the wise? they are towing like crazy when you park at PepBoys, BJs, Shoprite to go to Newport Mall right now- Merry Christmas! I got towed last night, along with many others. Just a warning! Pay the $ to park at the mall (even though it's ridiculous that a mall charges you to park!) Trust me, it's better than paying the scummy tow company $150 like I did last night. (Plus cab fare to get there).
On a side note, I wonder if the guys at Pep Boys get a cut for snitching? I mean, someone is tipping off the tow company and making them a lot of dough! The cabbies benefit too, for sure. What a sleazy business to be in. It's a horrible feeling to spend all of your $ on Christmas gifts in the mall, and come outside only to find that your car is missing and you have to spend another hour and $150 to get it back.

As I posted before, I will not drop my car off at Pep Boys for repairs anymore. It may be their responsibility if my car is towed, but I REALLY don't want to take the chance then have to deal with all the hassle.

The blinds at Home Depot were a sort of sickly brown color and around $75 for the size I needed. The blinds at JCPenney are/were on sale for 40% off and worked out to about $50 each. We also already had a couple sets of the JCP blinds and they work/look great. Okay back to topic! Towing sucks!

So Mark,

Off topic but, what made you pick JCPenny for blinds over Home Depot with free parking? Do they have better/ more choices?

They seem to offer a lot and the prices look good...

Go Blinds...

As for your car being towed at Pep Boys - I would think Pep Boys is responsibility once you give them the keys and fill out the forms.

show your ID at the information kiosk (by the elevators) and they'll knock $1 off your parking.

For me there's a boundary crossed between the $1 refund and the $2 parking. I've gone elsewhere many times to avoid the $2 parking, but I can't be bothered to go get my dollar back if I'm forced to park there. I usually just need the anchor stores and 20 minutes or less and walking to the center of the mall isn't worth my time. The stores should just validate. I needed to run in to JCPenney last week to buy $300 worth of window blinds and I hesitated at the parking garage when I remembered that I had to pay the $2.

The chunk of parking lot directly outside the Pep Boys front door bordered by the concrete curbs is a separate lot than the BJs/ShopRite/BBB parking lot. I've had my car towed when it was left at Pep Boys for repair. The repair was to take all day, so I left the lot (I went to work... not the mall).

Has anyone ever gone back to Pep Boys to pick up their car, with their Pep Boys paperwork in hand, wait for the mechanic to come back with the keys then to only find out that their car is nowhere to be found on the PepBoys property. It would be interesting if the mechanic was the one to retrieve the car for the customer only to find the car missing. "Hey the car's been picked up already" Who would be held responsible in this situation ?

Do you really think any of us belive you? It is posted in about a dozen places that you are only to park in the lot WHILE you are shopping at the stores.

You are to wait for your car at Pep Boys because that is where you are doing business, if it is to be ready the next day or another day then leave the area and come back when the car is ready. Another card that shouldn't be played unless you have a good poker face.

You can always buy one of these guys online -

Maybe they won't tow with him in the car - might work for HOV lanes too. It's called the 'Buddy on Demand' and inflates at the flick of a switch if and when a 'passenger' is needed.

I can't believe people are still complaining about this, for people out there that claim to be so educated and so intelligent you just don't get it. Let me explain it to you one more time. It doesn't matter how much you spend in any of the stores, or when you make the purchases, the moment you step out of the lot you are NO LONGER A CUSTOMER of the stores and have NO LEGAL right to be in the lot. If the tow company sees you leave for any reason, and there is no time limit on how long you have to be gone first, they can tow your car. For the reporting your car stolen first it won't do you any good you will still have to pay the fees. A friend of mine had his car towed from there and he went to the police thinking it was stolen and they told him the first thing they do whenever a car is being reported stolen from anywhere is to call the tow companies and the impound lot to see if it there first before filing a report so that idea is out the window aside from being completely illegal anyway.

I don't understand why for whatever reason people still keep copmplaining about this you can't win because if you could someone on here would have already written about it. It's PRIVATE property they set the rules, this would no different if someone put there car in your driveway. So get it thropugh your heads people stop parking there and going to the mall.
