Hello? Old people... depression... run on the banks... they all keep their money under the mattress!

Ok, so let me get this straight. This happened to them in 2001, and yet they still think it's a good idea to stash $8,000 in their home?

What's that saying? "First time, shame on them, 2nd time, shame on you!"

Can someone please tell these dear old folks that there's this great new concept called banking.....specically, a savings account!

would you prefer the story said "two old people living at x Park Avenue were robbed of $8,000 they just happened to have laying around inside their apartment"...

sometimes they will say something like, "800 block of 10th Street"

but even then, how many 94-year-old brothers live with their 87-year-old sisters on the 800 block of 10th Street?

I guess I am just a paranoid/cynical old fart!

this is awful, I feel terrible for these people, but the "Don't hit me! I'm pregnant!" part kinda made me laugh.

The whole story is a bummer but still, I hope I will have 8G's pocket change laying around when I'm 94. Actually I hope I get to be 94. The JJ always has a way of conjuring a totally bizarre scene in my mind when I read their articles. The old lady's line was a classic though, "I thought they would never leave". I suspect people have said that about me once or twice.

As usual the JJ is so forthcoming and full of details,....NOT !!!

Terrifying 'push-in' in Heights

A 94-year-old man and his 87-year-old sister said they were the victims of a "push-in" robbery in Jersey City late Wednesday evening.

The longtime Jersey City Heights residents said two women rang the doorbell at their two-story home around 5:10 p.m., told them they were neighbors, and then asked the man if it would be OK if they parked in their driveway for a few days.

But then the women tried to push their way past the man and enter the home, leading to a scuffle in the hallway, the sister told The Jersey Journal yesterday.

The brother struggled with the first woman as the sister tried to call police. But the other woman ran inside and yanked the phone cord out of the wall.

The sister said she started screaming for help, and the woman coolly replied, "Why are you yelling? No one's going to hear you."

Meanwhile, her 94-year-old brother - who has a heart condition, the sister said - was shoved to the ground.

"We were fighting for our lives," the sister said. "It was a horrible experience."

Her brother continued trying to fight back, punching his attacker in the stomach - who then bawled, "Don't hit me! I'm pregnant!"

The sister said they continued fighting the pair for at least 10 minutes, at which point the pair abruptly left.

"I was just scared out of my wits," she said. "I thought they'd never leave."

The siblings later checked over their belongings and discovered money the brother kept in his bedroom for the utility bills, as well as money he had in his wallet, was missing.

The sister suspected a third person entered the home during the chaos of the struggle with the two women and stole the money, totaling about $8,000.

The sister said they'd been robbed in October 2001, when two men - also posing as neighbors - distracted them while someone else broke into the home and stole money.
