Stay far FAR away from Cebulla (sp?) Heating and Plumbing. Nasty, dishonest, less-than-sober.

I take this recommendation back. We just had an awful experience with him. It's a long story, but he really botched a job that another plumber had to fix. He charged us an insane amount of money for screwing up.

Our neighbors said they had a bad experience too.

Stay away from Carmine Aumenta.

I recently had Jersey Builders Construction, LLC here. Their price was too high. I recommend every one pricing guys out first and then report the good and bad here. I got a more fair estimate from Clear Flow, but I will call J.Hugroy to gimme a price. If any used the later two, please post here.

I recommend Pruzansky Plumbing. They just came out and fixed our tub. They could have lied to us and created a bigger job for themselves, but the guy was honest and simply fixed the tub. $140 + tax to come out.

We replaced our toilet with a low flow about 3 years ago, but it's one of the ones that has a pressure vessel inside the tank and flushes with a WOOOSH like a commercial tankless toilet. I think it's clogged once in that time from my daughter going wild with the TP. Highly recommended.

Not so new, actually. That generation has been around for about 15 years now. Without getting too gross, you end up just flushing twice to avoid clogging the toilet, thereby defeating the water-saving purpose. Dave Barry wrote a great column on the topic and illegal toilet trafficking from Canada. http://www.tysknews.com/Depts/Regulation/canadian_toilets.htm

Eddie's got the picture. It's an old set up. The tank is bolted to the wall and there is a metal elbow connecting the tank to the bowl.

I can not tell if the water is coming from the tank/elbow joint or the elbow/bowl joint. The water seems to be seeping along the pipe, making it difficult to tell where it's coming from. It's just sort of dripping from the middle of the elbow where there is no joint.

I was really hoping to avoid a complete replacement because I heard the new generation of toilets, although water efficient, have a tendency to clog a lot.

Thanks for the feedback and advice so far, everyone. Thanks for the merge, too. I had done a search for "plumber," but nothing showed up. I''m going back to look at the names and recommendations now.

"the elbow pipe that connects the tank to the toilet"
Toilets are ceramic & you cant fix that if its the actual toilet, it needs to be replaced. Do you mean its leaking where the tank rests ontop of the bowl? That can be replaced with a new gasket.

We use Carmine Aumenta. He does a lot of work downtown. I don't have his phone number, but he's probably listed.

In the market for a new plumber.

Anybody have a good one?

Specific issue right now is a leaky toilet tank pipe - the elbow pipe that connects the tank to the toilet. Even though it's old and the whole toilet probably needs replacing, I'd rather have a repair than a complete replacement (new toilets seem to have lots of "issues"). It's a pretty minor job at the moment, but if the plumber does a nice job, I'll stick with 'em for life and use them for all my future plumbing needs.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi

I'm looking for a reliable, low-cost plumber to replace a broken pedestal sink in my bathroom.
Anyone have any recommendations? I'm in the JSQ area.

Thanks.

These guys are great, they were able to come out when we had an emergency recently when no one else was able to help. They also have excellent rates.

I can also recommend Kook & Son (201-653-0219), they have done great work on several occasions for me. As Guarini, not the cheapest, but reliable and knowledgable.

I second Guarini. He's a bit pricey, but totally reliable and I trust his judgment (it's just him and a sidekick doing all the work). Unlike other plumbers, he's never tried to pull a bait-and-switch on me. He doesn't replace or fix anything unless it absolutely has to be done. He's also punctual and is one of the few contractors organized enough to use email/BlackBerry. He may not be the cheapest contractor around, but he'll ultimately save you a major headache.

We have used Lou Guarini Plumbing & Heating twice at home for minor plumbing repair work. They are very professional, I highly recommend them. Check out their website:

Do a google on them for any additional information (reviews, etc).

Anyone know one?

We are nervous as we've been majorly ripped off in the past. We need one to repair something rather minor but they must be licensed as they have to go to the city and apply for a permit for us.

Please recommend people you've worked with more than once who you love, who are loyal. We aren't looking for the cheapest, we are looking for professional, someone who knows their stuff and they are willing to do a reasonably easy, quick job. Quick money really.

Antonio from Kook & Son takes care of our condo building. I have a one year service contract with them to service my hvac. He seemed knowledgeable and good. I delivered the check for my service contract in person to their office on Cook Street, across the street from the courthouse. The staff was very polite and nice.

I would first suggest calling your heating company if you use oil heat.

Majora Fuel is my oil/heating company and they do plumbing and heating repairs. Their number is 201-339-1184. They are very nice and responsive (at least to their heating oil customers).

I need a valve fixed on my boiler. My heat isn't working. :(

I can't find my yellow pages.
And I refuse to use Flood Watch since one of their vans ran through a stop sign the other day nearly hitting me.

As a result of the above recommendation, I had occasion to use Al twice in the past week. Thank you thank you. Both were small jobs... well, one sort of doesn't count... my hot water was fixed by turning the stupid switch to on. Duh. But Al was here in a flash, like 15 minutes on a Friday evening. And the other problem he fixed capably and very reasonably.

I could not disagree more as far as Flood Watch not being a ripoff. We had them do work in our condo building and their prices were quite high.

I also called them in to take a look at a leaking faucet in my bathroom sink. He took a crescent wrench, tightened the lead to the valve and told me, "that will be $150.00". Idon't know about you, but I classify that as a ripoff.

I had a company called Recommended Plumbing replace a thermocouple on my hot water heater for $120.00 and he came less than an hour. I don't have their number, but I think the guy that came was Eddie.

We actually used Kook & Son today to replace a faucet in our tub. Extremely professional: http://www.kookandson.com/. They said they'd come between 8 and noon this morning. Showed up at 9 and left by 11:45. Other people have used them for more complex jobs in the building and had good and professional results too.

I have always used Bracjewski (not positive on the spelling but they are in the phone book) - owner is John, plumber who comes to my house is Vito. Fast response, pleasant, reasonable - if they come for one big problem, they usually offer to fix any other little things while they are there (fussy toilet, slow drain) and only bill for the initial call and service time. They installed the hot-water heating system and boilers in my old house, and would come to light the pilots or whatever after the basement flooded (which it did, often - don't miss ya, Downtown!) - and never charged for it.

Gabe Ambrozia, does very good work and gets it done right the first time, unlike one or two others I have used over the years.

I really like Al from Super Rooter. He can be reached at 1-888-533-5551. In addition to doing n excellent job, he treated me with respect and patience. As a woman, who really wants to know how my house works, this was very important.

He made sure I understood my plumbing system and what he would be doing to it. He also gave me a lot of tips and told me where I could easily do repairs and maintenance myself in order to save money.

I also like Flood Watch, (201) 433-1500.

Both companies were good and came out same day.

Althea
