After just two public comments, the final vote was 7-2, with opposition council members Rolando Lavarro Jr. and James Solomon voting no. This year, there is money for homeowners to address the increase in the school budget but what about next year? The school budget was in the $600 million range not too long ago, it is now $814 million. All candidates talk about affordable housing, they are basically saying more housing will be exempt from school taxes while the small homeowners gets hit on the head with increases. That also includes rent control that this council pushed which included 2 to 4 family buildings, non-owner occupied. Solomon pushed this which is more taxes for Ward E.

Mayor Steve Fulop Friday announced a proposed $620 million 2021 municipal budget that would cut taxes by $967 and offset the nearly $1,000 tax hike residents were facing in the school budget.
