It's an example of a Liberal "zombie idea" that balances the Conservative ones like "tax cuts raise revenue". Any rent control legislation should be tied to drastic zoning reform. Period. Coast to coast, zoning is what causes housing shortages and thus high rents, not landlords.

In the early 1990s, I was asked to do voter registration, so I targeted the new housing that was going up downtown. That is when I got my education, subsidized housing in Jersey City during that time period and probably now had non-American citizens. They were from different countries: Poland, Russia, and various Latin American countries. These housing units were build with tax dollars and received tax abatements. So when I hear there is not enough housing, yes, that is correct. American citizens must compete for housing against legal and now illegal immigrants.

or you can just buy a pack of mouse traps for under $4.
There are many options.

Just blaming the landlord is not right. We don't know this building and the situation. We also don't know what type of tenant she is. Maybe she was the cause.
Apartments that are not rent control also get mice.

My point is how we never hear the landlords side.

We only read about the tenants side of things.

Why didn't Nina just move instead of paying $1,300 if she was so unhappy?

Now that her rent went down to $435 is she ok with sweeping the mouse droppings?

I'm interested to see if that website will also post what the owners have to say about it. It always seems to be one-sided.

I see they posted this about newark

Really? Moving costs money. It's not that easy to pick up and move. I would have told Nina to do what I did, adopt a cat. End of problem.

You are absolutely correct, most of Journal Square was rental until the city make radical changes to the rent control laws. Classic example is St. John Apartments.
