Federal judge allows disabled homeowner’s lawsuit against Jersey City to proceed

By Corey W. McDonald | The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY — A federal judge has allowed a disability suit brought by a Journal Square homeowner against the city for denying her request to build a carport in front of her yard to proceed, according to court documents.

The suit, originally filed in April 2018, claims the city discriminated against Joanne Gifford, and denied her her rights under the Fair Housing Amendments Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing to grant a curb cut and carport in her yard on Magnolia Avenue.
