I will miss him, I would go in there once in a while. Nice man. His family was the original one to have bought the property from the original developers back in the late 1800's, he was shot once in the place, stabbed twice. He would show me photos of what the area used to look like.
If he isn't running the business I worry for him. He never wanted to sell that place I know he got lots of offers. And yes he owns that building and the one next door.

I was in there a couple of months ago. Had a nice chat with Walt about the days when there were trains running on the Embankment.

The last time I went inside was probably 3 years ago and Walt was not there. He has had mobility issues for a while. I hope he is doing OK wherever he is... An era is closing. It has been closing for quite some time. Not sure Walt will enjoy the windfall - for long.

I must assume that's the only way it's been there this long. Yes, they will make a fortune. I actually just looked up the property to see what it was purchased for. That's not on the sheet, but it seems Walt owns the house next door too! I think they'll be OK, LOL. Odds are he paid well under $100k for each.

I feel bad. Another one of the last true family hold-outs bites the dust. A real mom-and-pop shop now gone. Oh well nothing lasts forever. I hope the owner and his family owned the entire building and I hope they sell it for uber dinero.

Jeez, with so many drunks in New Jersey how wasn't this place making enough to stay open?

Wow, end of an era. It means something but I'm not sure what. I've been here 22 years and have only set foot in the place once. It was enough. I hope it doesn't get turned into residential. A coffee & pastry shop there with outside seating would make a fortune if the rent was reasonable.

Kind of a bummer, but I feel like they never had more than the equivalent of two cases of beer on hand anyway. Not to mention, I feel like cats took the place over the last few times i'd been there.

sign on the front door says Business Closed and they removed the Jersey City View pics so it would indeed appear Walt's Liquors is officially closed

The liquor store on Jersey Ave and 8th street on Hamilton Park has been closed for well over 2 weeks. Does anyone know what the deal is?
