Sad what this parade has become, it was really an event back in the day.

How many JC old-skoolers on here remember when this parade lasted over 5 hours? ......The 4 High Schools at that time. (Ferris, Lincoln, Snyder and Dickinson) had bands, cheer-leaders, strutters, Baton twirlers that stretched about 3 city blocks minimum... EACH .... You had to leave home and find a spot to view parade by 10:30 or 11:00 AM

Yeah those were the days. The entire city would make their way to the Boulevard to watch the parades. You had to show up early to claim a spot or you would wind up 3 or 4 rows behind the crowd that was lined up on the curb. Tough if you were a little kid without any shoulders to sit on. All kinds of vendors selling buttons and flags. Our spot was always in front of John’s Bargain Store. (where Taco Bell is now) Had to be in that section near the Tonnelle Avenue bend so you would be the first one to see what was coming next. For a modern-day comparison, it was like the people waiting for the start of the 3:00 PM Main Street Disney World Parade. That much anticipation. Good times.

All in good humor, friend. Unfortunately I have another event, but this Kerry girl will be there in spirit. Big hugs, JM.

That's the Irish for you - responsive, resourceful and not at all scared of the rain (as the saying goes).

Can anyone provide any information on the 2019 Jersey City Saint Patrick's Day? Will it go ahead in the rain?

I am supposed to be attending but impossible to verify it is going ahead with lots of rain forecast for the morning.

I have found a couple of websites, but neither has any up to date information:

There is a phone number at the end of this piece....

Irish pride to be on display at Jersey City St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 10

Posted Mar 6, 2019
By Aya Elamroussi | The Jersey Journal

Jersey City will once again be awash with green Sunday when the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade makes its way up Kennedy Boulevard to Journal Square.

The annual celebration of Irish-American heritage will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the entrance to Lincoln Park. It will travel up Kennedy Boulevard before concluding in Journal Square.

Greg Kierce, the director of the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, will serve as the parade’s grand marshal.
