Been out driving all day and just got home - roads in JC are fine. The state of emergency is ridiculous. People are going to ignore them going forward.

By this time of the year they can afford to waste them. They're budgeted. It's also a function of how few teachers actually live in JC, that they don't want a tough drive home to the burbs. It's for the teachers, not the kids.

Back in *my* day, they didn't close school unless there was actual serious snow and ice on the ground and the roads were truly impassible (and that was often a very touch call). Closing based on an "anticipated snow storm" ? Ha!

Early dismissal for 3" to 4" of snow? Pain in the ass for parents still at work with kids too young to be at home alone.
