There is a public relations and marketing benefit to having a police station presence with associated cops and activity in the middle of a shopping and commercial area.

People like to see police around the place.

Just on a cashflow basis it's stupid, a fully built out residential and commercial property in R-5 zoning (presumably) on Central there will bring in far more property and sales taxes than any old property on a side street or other avenue. Just because the city owns it already doesn't mean it's "free".

I don't get it, why does a new station have to be on the commercial strip? There's a lot of Heights real estate NOT on Central! E District is on 7th, not Newark Ave.

New station planned on the parking lot on Central across Renato?s, in exchange for new parking garage between Griffith and Bowers.

Got emailed a press release from Fulop's office about a new North District station to be built. It stated that the new station will have parking. It doesn't state where in the Heights it will be located.

Eminent domain being used? Or is an existing city owned property going to be used for the new station?
