Agreed...! Last year the entire New York harbor was in the fog when we got in. This year a friend of mine had a heat stroke at mile 10 because of the humidity.

They really need to push this race back about a month. The last three years (at least) have had temps in the mid to high 70s at the start and 80% to 100% humidity. If they did it mid-October, you'd almost certainly get much more favorable conditions.

This is a RACE. By definition people are running on a course without obstacle during a specific time slot and aiming at their best time based on their abilities. You are lucking I did not do this race again this year, because if your car had been in front of me, or someone tried to pause me, I would not have been very kind.
That being said, my mom had the same reaction when we were stuck in Boston by the half, so I guess it is a misconception. I will let you PAUSE on that.

Oh really? Please show me the results of this important race in print. For your info the police finally did exactly that and paused the runners but not until an hour had passed. If thats the case and these races should not be paused than the street should be shutdown and a propper detour be designed.

doesn't sounds like you're "all for" these events. cause if you were, you'd know that pausing runners for traffic is ridiculous.

It's only September, but this HAS TO BE a contender for dumbest, most pretentious post of the year. When have you seen ANY race (not an event! a race...) that stops its participants to allow for traffic to go through!? That's definitely not how races work. Even Philadelphia, which just held a half marathon this weekend, essentially shuts down its city center, as well as the entire west side of the city up Kelly Dr and then back down on MLK Drive for about 4 hours. It's just how it works.

get over yourself. that's not how any of that works. Should they pause the NYC marathon at every intersection as well?

I am all for having these events. However i am currently stuck on Grand Street in gridlock now for 45 min. It is ridiculous that these runners cant be held at intersections to allow traffic to pass. All they need to do is pause runners on jersey ave and allow cars through.

If he uses MapMyRun, they have a live tracking feature. You'd have to install the app and know the route.
Refreshments following the run are usually pretty sparse; a banana, a bagel. I usually buy something from the nearby deli as I leave. There's the strip along Grand Street, where you'd be able to see him going into the park and when he gets back out. Then you could cut back to the finish line, if you're on a bike or have a car.

Does your husband run with his phone?
Google Maps, and likely Apple Maps, allows users to share their real-time location. That combo'd with ladybert's suggestion to choose some locations to expect one another should solve this for you.

99% sure there is no tracking for this one. best way to spot him is tell him where you will be, what side of the street, and for you to just estimate his pace and keep an eye out. i have had no problem seeing friends who ran on this course because the runners were spaced out enough.

My husband is running the Newport Half Marathon this coming Sunday, but we don't see this info in the reg information - is there a way for me to be able to track him as he runs? So we can anticipate seeing him somewhere along the course?
Also if any previous Newport runners have any suggestions or recommendations for him, I'll take those too. Is there food after the race for them? Should I bring something? Thanks!
