Quote:
This past Saturday, Green Villain and Writer?s Bench hosted a buoyant block party at the site of the former 2015 landmark Demolition Exhibition. The hundreds of folks who attended the massive celebration were treated to live painting and music, along with food provided by local vendors. Pictured above is Newark-based Mr. Mustart. What follows are several more images captured Saturday by David Sharabani aka Lord K2.

Jersey City?s Green Villain is bringing back the funk with a block party featuring live painting, music, vendors and local food trucks this July 21 (rain date, July 22). Following up on their 2016 twelve hour art and music festival they are partnering with Forest City to give something back to the community. Join them at the former Pep Boys/Demolition Exhibition and relive the glory from three years ago.

Green Villain was born inside the historic Clorox Bleach factory in 2009 and started producing murals around the city in 2013 working with local and regional artists. In late 2014 they first painted the rear of Pep Boys in Metro Plaza right across from Shop Rite. The site was acquired by Forest City and G&S Investors early in 2015 and they contacted Green Villain about the mural project underway. That led to the Demolition Exhibition in the summer 2015. The party lasted a week, 100 artists painted 30,000 square feet of murals on the inside and outside walls of the building. Thousands of people of all ages and from all walks of life took it in?looking at the art, chatting, skating, taking flicks, having a blast. Google Street View captured the site right before the building was demolished.

Now Green Villain is doing it in 2018 with the newest installment of placemaking: a local block party for the community of Jersey City. Fifteen artists will each paint an 8? by 25? mural on Saturday, July 21 (rain date, Sunday, July 22). DJs from the Open Crates vinyl collective as well as the extended GV network will start at noon and continue until 6 PM. IncrediBalls Food Truck, Park & Munch and Luigi?s Ice Cream will keep hunger pangs at bay. This event is not to be missed.

Featured Artists: Skeme, Stash, Wane, Ntel, Yoder, Mustart, Curve, SP One, Host18, Queen Andrea, Rath, Mecro, Mone, 4Sakn & Wen
