lol yeah right. I go up and Down Newark Ave almost every day, the traffic isn't any worse than it used to be except for the construction by the cemetery. There is never any traffic backup around Newark & Jersey Ave. The idea that it's backing up all the way to Monteleone's is just fantasy.

Yvonne, will you concede that the plaza has not impacted access to the medical center as you claimed it would?

I do not know if it has impact the Medical Center, but I do know traffic along Newark Avenue from Jersey City to the Kennedy Blvd (Indian Square) is back up always since that particular street was closed. I know someone who stopped going to Monteleone Bakery due to this problem. This person orders their cakes there going back decades.

On the Council agenda tonight, I believe.

will they actually plant it this time, though? the renderings for the original plaza promised a lot more greenery than what was delivered. I love our little slice of walkability, but it isn't nearly what it could be, in terms of aesthetics.

You really have a problem, nicky. My problem with closing Newark Avenue has to do with the procedure. Only the city council can create laws, not the mayor. Executive privilege is limited and cannot be imposed on the public. The mayor has the right to use executive privilge on employees. Only the city council can imposed laws on the public such as closing streets. They did later. But it is an abuse of power, the same thing is now happening with the executive privilege of stopping homeowners from knocking down buildings. The council creates the laws, the mayor runs the city. There is no law telling the public to stop knocking down properties until the city council votes on this.

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet...

I hope to see it become reality. The pedestrian plaza has been a commendable effort by the mayor and his administration. Of course, lots of NIMBYs and old timers averse to change are already complaining about any expansion of the plaza.

Also, if the LSP bridge becomes a reality, a pedestrian plaza would be a good way to counterbalance the increase in traffic and its implications for pedestrian safety.
