Unlicensed driver charged in crash that killed Jersey City woman

JERSEY CITY -- A 27-year-old woman has been charged with death by auto for an early Saturday morning crash that killed a backseat passenger in the vehicle.

Khadija Hamilton, of Jersey City, was unlicensed when she slammed into a metal barrier on Newark Avenue, killing Khalla Nguyen, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Hamilton fled the scene after the 3 a.m. crash near Seventh Street. She surrendered to authorities with her attorney at about noon on Sunday, officials said.

JERSEY CITY - At the Van Wagenen apartments, everyone knew Khalla Nguyen. She always had a smile on her face and cared about everyone.

Now her friends and family are trying to piece together how the life of the 24-year-old woman was cut entirely too short.

Nguyen was the backseat passenger in a Honda Accord early Saturday morning that crashed into a metal barrier on Newark Avenue, authorities said. The car appears to have been left in the middle of the road with the injured woman still in the vehicle. She died at the scene.

UPDATE: 24-Year-Old Woman Killed in Jersey City Car Crash

Hudson County authorities identified a woman killed in an early morning crash in Jersey City.

According to authorities, on Saturday, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a fatal crash occurred in the area of Newark Avenue and 7th Street in Jersey City.

Authorities said responding Jersey City Police officers found a female victim with apparent injuries from the crash.

Police identified the woman as Ms. Khalla Nguyen, 24, of Jersey City.

Medical staff on the scene pronounced Nguyen dead at the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Police said Nguyen was the backseat passenger of the crashed vehicle from a 2000 Honda Accord.

The initial investigation showed that the car was traveling east on Newark Avenue when it made contact with a metal guardrail authorities said.

The car came to a stop in the middle of Newark Avenue, near 7th Street.

The Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit is investigating this crash and the role of the other occupants of the crashed vehicle.

JERSEY CITY -- A woman was killed in a fatal collision on Newark Avenue and 7th Street early this morning, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

The accident occurred sometime after 3 a.m Saturday morning beneath the Hudson extension of the NJ Turnpike. The Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit is on the scene and is still investigating.

Woman Found Dead in Car After Car Crash in Jersey City

Hudson County authorities are investigating a car crash that left one person dead overnight in Jersey City.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to the intersection of 7th Street and Newark Avenue at around midnight where they received reports of a crash with injuries.

Arriving emergency responders found the unconscious and unresponsive woman in the rear seat of a car and attempted unsuccessful medical techniques to revive the victim.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly left the scene and was not immediately located according to reports. There were no other serious injuries reported.

Police are trying to determine if the woman died from the crash or was already dead in the car before the accident.

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
