Bestbuy will take all old electronics. You can also contact Church World Service in Journal Square to see if they need any donations for families in need. They are often looking for old cellphone, computers, televisions etc. Their number is
(201) 659-0467 and they are located at 26 Journal Square

I have a 205 lbs Sony WEGA TV that I need to put on the curb for a special pickup... if I ever manage to get it down the stairs.

we just dropped off four(!) old printers for recycling at Best Buy, and got four coupons for 15% off a new printer.
I believe they do the same for all electronics. meanwhile, if anyone would like one of our three unused coupons, PM me.

That article is 3+ years old. The JCIA doesn't exist anymore and that site on Rt. 440 is abandoned.

Email the author on August 20, 2014 at 10:25 AM, updated August 20, 2014 at 2:01 PM Jersey City residents now have the opportunity to recycle large household appliances and electronic equipment through the Jersey City Incinerator Authority's "White Goods and E-Waste" recycling programs. The program allows residents to dispose of these white goods and/or e-waste products either by arranging a pick-up over the phone or by bringing the waste to be recycled in person to the JCIA?s headquarters, located at 501 Rt. 440. Those who wish to arrange a pick-up by phone should call the JCIA at 201-432-4645, ext. 600, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those who wish to deliver their waste in person to JCIA?s headquarters can do so Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents taking advantage of the program must provide proof of Jersey City residency, such as a driver?s license or utility bill. Some examples of white goods that will be accepted as part of this program include refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves, microwaves, hot water heaters, washing machines and dryers. Examples of e-waste that will be accepted include computers and computer equipment, TVs, VCRs/DVD players, stereos, radios, copiers, fax machines and scanners, as well as phones. The reuse and/or recycling of these materials conserves natural resources, and reduces the pollution and greenhouse gas emissions that results from having to make new materials, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. ?We?re concerned about ensuring the proper disposal of large household items and consumer electronics,? JCIA CEO Oren K. Dabney Sr. said in a press release. ?That?s why we implemented these programs to increase the collection and responsible recycling of consumer goods. Together, with our residents, JCIA will continue to recycle our way to a cleaner, healthier environment.?
