Yes, and we should.

JERSEY CITY -- Police have arrested the man they believe was behind the wheel of a stolen SUV that jumped the curb and killed a deaf man on his way home for work.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced a 19-year-old man was apprehended late Thursday afternoon, just hours after putting out a stern message the suspects will be caught and "can't keep running."

Did a crosstown shuffle yesterday with an old friend, from uptown to downtown--taking in the sights, stopping here and there. I've gotta say, overall, it was pretty sad to see the shape of it all. I think it should be referred to as Jersey Shitty until the place gets its act together.

Man killed in explosive hit-and-run would 'give his jacket off his back'

JERSEY CITY -- Authorities continue to investigate a deadly crash on Kennedy Boulevard that left an innocent man on his way home from work dead.

Umar King was near a bus stop at about 4:40 a.m. when an SUV being pursued by police collided with another vehicle at the Communipaw Avenue intersection. The vehicle jumped the curb and destroyed the covered bus stop before coming to a rest against a row of parked cars.
King was thrown several feet and died at the scene. A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody, but not charged as of last night. Two other teens fled the scene, authorities said.

Friends held a vigil last night for the 33-year-old at the intersection where he died, saying he worked for FedEx and was a volunteer sign language teacher.

"He was a gentle person," King's friend Thyson Halley said at the vigil attended by local news stations. "He would give his jacket off his back, support you in anything, kind-hearted person, loving person."

Well, given that two out of the four criminals are already in custody, getting the other two is only a matter of time, and will likely happen in short time. Unfortunately, the law will likely keep these criminals from being punished adequately (minors and all) but I hope the prosecutor takes the necessary step to try and have all of them charged as adults.

I know it sounds cold, but these "kids" are anything but that.

JERSEY CITY - Authorities are searching for two teenage suspects wanted for their involvement in a violent early-morning crash that claimed the life of an innocent bystander.

Umar King, 33, was standing at a covered bus stop on Kennedy Boulevard near Communipaw Avenue when a stolen SUV jumped the curb and fatally struck him around 4:50 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said during a press conference.

A Hudson County Sheriff's Officer noticed the SUV driving south "at a high rate of speed" on Kennedy Boulevard, not stopping at traffic lights, Suarez said. A radio communication soon came in that the suspect refused to stop and the SUV eventually collided with another car at the Communipaw Avenue intersection.

Suarez said it appears the officer was following protocol.

A 16-year-old boy who was inside the SUV was brought to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment and is now in custody. He has not yet been charged with a crime. The driver of the vehicle the SUV collided with suffered minor injuries, Suarez added.

Two other teenagers, described as being between 16 and 18 years old, are being sought and they are believed to be Jersey City residents. They can be seen running from the scene in a short surveillance clip provided by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. It is still unclear who was driving the SUV.

Wondering if it was a local crew or a Newark crew. It will be tough to find them unless they left some clues behind.

Politics caused Kennedy Blvd to become a deathtrap. For those who were not around, former Mayor Schundler was battling the county executive Bobby J. Schundler said there was no need for county cops, Bobby J said all of the money went to the municipalities when someone is pulled over, the majority of those fines went to JC but is cost the county around $2 million of their budget. So the county executive eliminated the county cops which patrolled Kennedy Blvd and Tonnelle Avenue. After that elimination, accidents just increased.

Sad, from what I heard the victim hit was deaf and if it's true they were going 100mph that means he never even saw or heard it coming.

CBS Noon News said car was going 100+ MPH. There is video of the whole crash. Poor guy was standing next to a bus shelter on the corner. SUV spun out of control and took him and shelter out. The 3 or 4 S-bags are seen running away. Didn't say if they got them.

JERSEY CITY -- A portion of Kennedy Boulevard that was closed this morning following a fatal crash has reopened to traffic.

A pedestrian was killed shortly before 5 a.m. when an SUV jumped a curb on Kennedy Boulevard between Communipaw and Clinton avenues and struck the person.

Sources and witnesses say a sheriff's officer was chasing the speeding SUV when that vehicle jumped the curb, plowed directly through a bus stop and hit someone on the sidewalk.

It was a police pursuit by a Sheriff's car. I didn't know Sheriff's could pursue vehicles in that fashion?

would it hurt for the city/state to install some type of specialized roadway or speeds bumps, etcthat forces cars to slow down in pedestrian zones? how many more people must die/be injured before authorities do something?

What a surprise... another pedestrian struck by an irresponsible driver. I guess you can now look forward to those portable electric billboards/signs alerting people to slow down for the next week, and then it will be back to business as usual.

Got a text from my nanny that JFK is shutdown with a huge police investigation (she is stuck in traffic now). Anyone here have an idea as to what is going on?
