What a shit show! Was driving north from North Carolina after visiting my folks. My traffic app took me into Staten Island and onto Bayonne Bridge to avoid this mess. Glad its back open.

Lincoln Tunnel traffic patterns modified in wake of Turnpike Extension bridge closure Updated 5:52 PM; Posted 5:52 PM By Margaret Schmidt mschmidt@jjournal.com The Jersey Journal Traffic patterns at the Lincoln Tunnel and Port Authority Bus Terminal have been modified this evening to accommodate drivers who would normally use the New York-bound Holland Tunnel, the P.A. said in a statement. Because of the indefinite closure of the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike Extension bridge from Interchange 14 in Newark to 14A in Bayonne, the P.A. will maintain three lanes in each direction through the Lincoln Tunnel tubes to ease traffic flow and the arrival of buses to the bus terminal in Midtown. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... _o.html#incart_river_home

"A contractor working in the area discovered that several bearings between the bridge deck and a pier became overextended and had rotated out of position, causing the eastbound bridge deck to drop several inches, according to the statement.
Bearings are steel pieces that connect the bridge deck to the pier. They are designed to allow for controlled movement of the bridge deck, such as expansion or contraction due to temperature changes." Source - JJ
